BudoSeek! Site FAQ

Updated January 1, 2005

We have frequently been asked questions about BudoSeek!, so we thought we would present these FAQs so you can learn a little more about us, and answer a few of your questions.

Our Mission: The Mission of BudoSeek! is to promote unity, cooperation, mutual respect and communication in the Martial Arts Community

Q: So who is behind BudoSeek!?

A: BudoSeek! is a service of Budo Seishin Web Design Service of Baton Rouge, LA and is provided for the purpose of promoting unity, cooperation, mutual respect and communication in the Martial Arts Community. BudoSeek! is privately funded by Robert Carver, the owner of Budo Seishin Web Design Service as a way of giving back to the Martial Arts Community. Our goal is to make this your one-stop resource for Martial Arts related information on the Internet. BudoSeek! started in 1997, making it the FIRST Search Engine and Portal Community exclusively devoted to the Martial Arts Community. Since then, there have been a lot of imitators come and go, but BudoSeek! continues to set the standard by which others follow.

Q: I would love to join or register my site, but I am concerned about my privacy and having my personal information sold to various mailing lists!

A: With all of the spam that is out there, it is very understandable that you might be hesitant to provide some personal information. However, any personal information you provide during registration of your website or in our forums (of anywhere else for that matter!) will never be released, sold, given away or anything of that nature to any third party. We take your privacy seriously and as such, any information you provide stays with us!

Q: Hey, some of the pages on BudoSeek! look really screwy!

A. We try hard to make sure that every visitor to our site has an enjoyable experience and we design our pages with that in mind. However, some older computers with older operating systems and browsers may see things that are "not quite right". We have two suggestions to help you alleviate this problem: First, consider upgrading to the most recent version of the web browser you are using. We recommend Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0, Mozilla Firefox 1.0, or the Mozilla Suite. If upgrading your browser does not work, we recommend upgrading your operating system to the most current version of Windows (Windows XP), the Macintosh operating system (OS X) or the most current version of Linux. Addressing these two issues should allow you to view the site without errors and with maximum enjoyment.

Q: Does it cost anything to have my site listed on BudoSeek!?

A: Absolutely not! BudoSeek! will never ask anything from you, monetarily or otherwise to have your site listed or use any of our services. Everything on BudoSeek! is FREE and we intend to keep it that way!

Q: When I register my site, I am asked to provide my email address. How can I be sure I will not end up on some spam list?

A: Your privacy is very important to us and we don't like spam any more than you do. Our pledge to you is: Your email address or other private information will NEVER be released to any outside source or any organization that is affiliated with BudoSeek! even if we have a stake in the organization.

Q: Can I register my site in more than one category?

A: No. We prefer that you list your site in the appropriate category only. If you submit your site multiple times to different categories, then we reserve the right to place your listing into the appropriate category for one submittal. The rest will be disallowed. Multiple submissions is referred to as "spamming the engine" and is in poor taste. Many search engines will refuse to list any of your submissions and will place your site on a "banned domain" list that will prevent you from submitting at all. We prefer not to do this, but multiple violators may be placed on the banned domain list without warning. BTW, changing the name of a site to try and get it past the review process will not work.

Q: Can I link to BudoSeek! from my website?

We would be honored to have you link to us on your website. We have a variety of button and banners that you can use just for that purpose. Click here for information on how to link to us.

Q: Can I add a BudoSeek! Search Form to my web site?

A: Yes you can! Just visit this page and copy the code to your website and you can have a BudoSeek! Search Form for your site too!

Q: Why are the votes recorded in the Top 10 Program and the Rate It next to each site's listing different?

A: That is easy. They are totally different programs. The Top 10 Program is calculated by visitors to your site clicking the button you place there. The Rate It Program is calculated by visitors to BudoSeek! that want to rate your site on a scale of 1 to 10. They click the Rate It link next to your listing in BudoSeek! and they fill out a voting form. The number of votes and the average score is listed next to each site's listing.

Q: I have visitors who have voted for me in the past either in the Top 10 or the Rate It program and when I last visited BudoSeek! I noticed that the statistics have "zeroed out". Why?

A: Sometimes we have to reset the statistics on these programs. This is especially true if we have just upgraded the software running the site. We certainly apologize for the inconvenience.

Q: I would love to have a web site for my school, but don't know how to put one together. Can you help?

A: As a side business, we operate Budo Seishin Web Design Service and offer web design services. For more information, contact Robert Carver.
