Hello. I was wondering how I would be able to go to the olympics. This may sound stupid but I really want to know. I'm 18 and just a beginner. Would I be too old. Or some kind of barrier preventing that. Thanks a bunch.

If you are just thinking about being a spectator at an event then find a place to buy tickets for the 2016 Games.

To get to the Olympic Training Center and the Olympic Trials you will need points. These points are earned by competing in tournaments here in the States and Internationally. There are various classes of tournaments ranging from E point tournaments to A Point Tournaments.

Usually E Point tournaments are large state tournaments or smaller regional tournaments...e.g. The Dallas Invitational Class E Point Tournament. A Point Tournaments are large national and international tournaments. An example of A Point Tournament would be the U.S. Open.

The A & B Point Tournaments will be the tournaments that count towards being eligible for Olympic Trials. The top 5 competitors, based on points, in each weight division have the opportunity to attend the Trials.

Beat those other 4 people in line to represent the United States in that weight category and you have made it.

You may want to take a look at the Titan Games. They are coming up this August and we might get a few minutes on ESPN in the weeeeeeeeee hours of the night.

The oldest judo player in the Olympics was 59, so you have time. Right now, make sure your ukemi is protecting you.

I don't know much about Judo, but with TKD there are certain instructors/coaches/trainers that really gear the competitors toward international competition. It's pretty much a given that if you want to compete successfully on an international scale, you will seek out one of those schools.

Good luck. :)

Ever wanted to live in Mississippi?

I know of this man by reputation and seminars;

Dr. Dewey is a pretty good guy along with being a good competition judo coach. I think he's Olympic experienced too, but I can't remember.

I stand corrected, and also a little jealous...

Thread drift alert:

I can't wait to meet him at whatever conference our paths next cross! I think he's coming over this way sometime in the next year or so.

TD Alert over!

Dewey Sensei will be a guest instructor at the Akayama Ryu Camp this July in Birmingham. For more info, go to www.akayamaryu.com/Summercamp2005.htm
All styles and ranks are welcome and we'll be running a Kid's Camp at the same time.

Anticipating my question, eh? :D

Thanks for the info; I've got it pencilled in after hearing about it in dojo recently.
