I have been through quite a lot trying to find a good webhost for free. Does anyone have any suggestions about a hosting service that doesn't have forced ads and does have e-mail.

I'd be interested in such a thing if it exists as well, particularly as to how they turn a profit without ads - since bandwidth and servers cost money.

Look into the prices on webspace first. For most sites you can get more then enough space for a few bucks a month.

I pay $7 / month and get 200mb space, 8gb bandwidth and unlimited e-mails. They also registered my domain name and didn't have any start up costs or sign a contract.

Webspace is a very competitive business, if the site is for a school it's also the cheapest advertising you'll get, and one of the most effective. It's worth spending the few bucks to set it up right and then if it does take off you got the options to expand.
