So, if you are a member of another organization, the KHF will expel you? Nice. So much for freedom of choice.

There's a choice thier way or the highway.

I'd like to see some positive change that many wanted 2 years ago, lets see american masters treated like the koreans in regards to testing, issuing dan ranks, support, real rules and guidlines that apply for all members the same etc?

The so called certain individuals you mention were "EXPELLED" from the KHF and some of the rules that are and were put in place is to prevent it from happening again.

One of the rules is that you can Only Belong to one organization or federation that represents Hapkido, This prevents what has happened charging two or three Dan testing fees putting undue burden upon the members.

Or people that say they represent them belonging to several groups to make it appear as they have more power than they actually do. And becoming more of a certificate salesman

It is a start in the right direction and they are making an efffort and if " FAIR WEATHER MEMBERS" do nothing but complain and try and find flaw or search for reason or excuses what they will not assist or belong .I personaly say good luck and GOODBYE... We do not need them or want them if the only reason they are there is to complain. There are plenty of other groups to join some assit you even if you have no (REAL Hapkido) expeirense if the price is right they will help.

As for myself I have been and will continue to be in contact with John we talk at least once a week, as Do Holcombe and myself this how we solve things and move forward , not complaining about things past that we have No control over.

Hal,
You bring up some good points. I am not a member so I have no stock in this but it sounds like they ARE trying to plug up some of the holes in the system that let the rats in to begin with...

I am not a member either, but I thought I was. At any rate, how can YOU say this after the way they manipulated your situation. One minute you are their rep, the next Boston only and then back again. Kerry should be president of the KHF.

Felix,

I don't think that is the case. These people have shown they cannot be trusted. They protected a scoundral and then prohibited promotions from non=Koreans. They have played games with Master Whalen and lord knows what else... And we are supposed to just say ok we trust you? I don't think so.

Hal,

I don't think we are complaining. I think we are saying that we don't trust them and they have given us no reason to do so. I like Master Gimm June but if you remember, Master Bae was also trying to make reforms... and look at what happened to him. I hope they don't do the same thing to Master Gimm June.

I guess people who do not trust them can find other means or association to further their Hapkido. I'm not making excuses for them, I for one am always on the look out for people or associations who will try to take advantage of me. All Koreans are not crooks, I met a few decent Master and Grandmaster who done nothing but help me; for example Grandmaster Bok Man Kim. On other hand they're a few that make the rest look bad, but thats a small number.

Felix,

We are not talking about Koreans generally. We are talking about an organization that has the VERY same leadership. How many times must we get burned before we learn? Master Bae tried to reform the KHF and look out for non-koreans and where is he now?

Greetings,

I won't disagree with anything Frank said, however we're all HKD brothers and if the leadership of the KHF is taking clear steps to correct thier past mistakes I'm for it.

I would proceed with some caution and take one step at a time to make sure they will do the right thing.

I have spoken to Jim June several times and I believe he is of "inclusive" attitude as was Master Bae.

The old close minded seniors will be retiring etc. so thier attitudes will be going with them.

It goes like this In Korea there is not the changing of Masters and teachers like there is here a teacher becomes almost like a father figure you do not change parents because another Father looks more Handsome ? Once you are under a kwan or a Master In Korea that is it you stay with that Kwan. Period, other kwans will not except into them without talking to your master first so there is no loss of face. Something could be said or learned from this practice.

My Master is currently visiting Family in New York and Lugo had a chance to meet him and as he will tell you I have been with his Dojang since 1976 .I have been offered promotions ,titles if I left him and joined another group,But this is the man that opened his dojang to me and considers me Family.

Unfortunately, loyalty is just a word here , as is patience ,humility, honesty,
they are only words until we put them into practice .If My Masters decided to leave the KHF I would follow without a doubt.

The organization is not without its flaws as are most groups, would you rather belong to a group that is run Here? Most that are the funds that go to them are giving that Master a better lifestyle. In korea the KHF is non-profit they have to account for every nickel where it came from and where it went.

Here in states the next thing you know the head of the organization is driving a new Mercedes*compliments of the "NEW" increased dan fees.

Greetings,

That's true, I met Grandmaster Won (Master Whalen’s instructor) this past Saturday. He's very nice and serious about Hapkido and the people associated with him. I could tell that if your taken in into his fold your been adopted like a family member.

It's hard to believe but it's true this man has been Master Whalen's instructor since '76. How many of you can claim that? I cannot.

Greetings

I had a long term teacher from 1978 to 1997 19 years over 12-14 of active training and teaching at his Dojang.

However for many reasons it was not my destiny to continue as an active student there, he still considers me his student and I consider him my first Master.

American culture is different than the Koreans. Hal is very lucky to have one master for life, I happen to think thats very rare for Americans.

The Korean cultural difference lends itself to that Kwan Unity and HKD is more than just a business $$.
