View Full Version : MMA training tips
i was just wondering what are some good MMA training tips, my styles are currently Taekwondo/Muay Thai/Grappling
ANY help would be awesome
thanks..
All I can suggest is to think of the three ranges as specifically three different games, as per the book Mastering Jiu Jitsu by one of the Gracies (Ryan, I think?)
Striking, clinch/takedown, and groundfighting.
On the ground, getting and holding position is way more important than getting shots in.
Takdowns must be practiced against guys who don't want to get taken down as well as against guys who want to take you down, too. These are two different drills as one is attacking and the other is trying to disengage.
That's about all I have to offer. I'm deep in the groundfighting game and not much of a striker.
Good luck.
Find a group of guys who can kick your butt, and have them do it on a semi-regular basis.
Seriously, this is important. If the only guys you fight are guys that you know you can beat, then you won't get any better. Also the bigger the aforementioned guys are, the better for you.
In my MMA class, I'm the only one without a wrestling background, and I'm also the smallest (recently cut-down to 170 lbs). It took about three months of working takedowns on 250-pound guys, and now executing a takedown on someone my size is MUCH easier.
