The "BJJ check in" thread prompted me to ask, Is BJJ your primary or secondary, or even your only art.
For me it's my secondary to complement my stand up.

I have no primary art. I consider them all equal.

My secondary. Had I tried it years ago..it probably would have been my primary.

I have been doing Taekwondo a lot longer than Aiki Jiu-jitsu, which I just started. I think I will start to consider Aiki Jiu-jitsu my "primary art" and consider Taekwondo to be my cardio workout, since it's becoming only that. A LOT of the same kicking and sparring drills over and over again for months at a time... But In AJJ I am learning new and practical stuff all the time.

Started out in Taekwondo like alot of people. A true belt factory. I learned to kick, that is all.

Was introduced to grappling from the early days of ISFA Shootfighting. I sucked and everyone kicked my butt the whole time I was there.

Trained Traditional Jiu Jitsu for several years reaching Brown Belt once I moved to Naples. After a year I also started BJJ. Eventually, I discontinued TJJ in favor of BJJ and all the material I was working with in Law Enforcement.

So, BJJ is my last "Martial Art". I will continue to train and learn through my coaches and networking, but I really don't think I'll return to a white belt beginner class to start training all over again just for exposure to another "style".

As far as training goes, BJJ is currently my primary art. In terms of what I would use for self-defense, it would be secondary, since I would prefer not to go to the ground if possible.

BJJ is the only thing I'm training in right now, though I'd like to pick up kickboxing again sometime soon, and maybe even an internal art down the road. I definitely consider BJJ my primary art though.

I started out training in Kung Fu and reached a Brown Belt before I discovered BJJ.

Just BJJ for now. It's enough.

I totally flipped from stand up to the ground and (right now) would probably rather hit someone with my purse than go 5 rounds stand up with someone. When I quit the ring work I was so sick of being limited to my arsenal and gosh darnit damn tired of get hit in the head over and over whether you cover up or not it still would get me punch drunk for hours post fight. I still like to throw on the gear now and then to keep my blood pumping and so I wont look like a total idiot if it comes down to it again.... hell, I think I my have one more nhb fight in me before I hit 35.

Sarcastic example of where I think my standup is right now. But if I did, I would call it a "man bag".

BJJ is the only art I'm practicing now, although I get a little exposure to Judo at a club that combines both.
