View Full Version : Watchband for Choking
Has anyone heard of or seen a special watchband with a loose strap in it for use in executing an ezekiel-type choke while on the street?

I've seen it, but I figure it's gonna be hard to use and a good old fashioned manual choke will work better.
Besides, how often do you need to choke someone who's not wearing a shirt?
That said, I'm not well versed in the techniques and so take my comments with a grain of salt.

The one in FROM RUSSIA TO LOVE would be better.
When would you ever possibly use it though?
Maybe this should be in the ninja category he he

Does it come in black leather with spikes?
Seriosly though, that looks rather silly...
It may sound crazy, but I think this is a briliant idea.
That single-cuff choke is my #1 submission - I tap guys out from within their guards with it. It just works for me, somehow.
I think having that available while wearing t-shirts, polo shirts, and other tops without reinforced cuffs, could be a great asset. I could have used it last time I had to bounce a guy - if I could have controlled him from his neck like that, I wouldn't have slipped and split his chin. Would have been safer for both of us.

I knew a guy who had one. It's a great idea, but the watch/band is really dorky looking.
Does it hang out and flop around or is the extra strap concealable between the main strap and the wrist?

Dude, I don't mean to come across as overly critical but that thing is about the dumbest idea I've ever heard of and for one really big reason: JAIL. It is a concealed James Bond-esque type weapon.
Any prosecuter would have an absolute field day with mall-ninja gear like that - they would make you out to be some kind of lunatic and you might end up in worse trouble than the person you try to subdue with it
Erik, I'll give you a little 'secret' tip from my no-gi submission fighting days; it's called an elbow brace  . My instructor would wear one all the time - especially in competition and just for this purpose.
Get you a nice stretchy one (neopreme-sp-?)... When the time comes it is a simple thing to just slip it down around your wrist as you approach the rowdy in question - you can effect the same chokes that the mall ninja watchband will help with. ...And you won't get arrested just for wearing it as you are trying to board an airplane (!).
Seriously, even a plain old tennis type wrist band will do the trick for chokes. No need to drop the cash on some gimmick that will just get used against you in court. Just look to your environment & be creative!
Cheers,
James
Great idea, James! It just so happens that I'm wearing one of those at the office today, though that's because I got armbarred on Tuesday, not for any stealth ninja reason. ;)
Good point about the prosecutors. I hadn't thought of that.
I guess the closest thing to legal we could come up with is a watchband that is strong enough to be used like this and is still just a loop, not an extra hanging strap. That puts the thumb at risk, though....

The extra strap velcros to the rest of the band. When you want to use it you pull the velcro to release the extra material.
I can easily see this thing being used against you in court, and while I don't remember it being overtly suspicious looking it could easily raise the wrong eyebrows.
