Let me lob the first salvo...there are no forms in original Hapkido...IMHO if you are practicing Hapkido forms you are basically wasting your time....go play Halo 2, cut your toenails, chase an ice cream truck down the road, or something constructive like that :o ...

You're Right

I once learned all 5 KS forms (forget em now), but they are the Kuk Sool forms or a close rip off.

I've seen these a long time ago. They are KSW forms ( or suppose to be) My favorite is the one with the "bunny hop" technique.

also, I have been studing hapkido since 1990, I have never been taught a form. and I've spent too much time getting my arse kicked to cut my toe nails.

Traditional hapkido doesn't know forms. That is true.
If your teacher is telling you that the forms he is teaching are hapkido forms, he isn't exactly tellling the true. Although you could argue that the forms he's teaching are forms from his hapkido-style.

To me Kuk Sool Won is Hapkido with some extra stuff added, and not, as je Kuk Sool Won guys will make you want to believe, Stuff with some Hapkido added to it.
This is just my personal believe :) (in that believe structure you could say that kuk sool won forms are hapkido forms ;))

To go as far as to say that practicing 'hapkido' forms is a waste of your time......
If your teacher knows some forms which he thinks are benefictial to your hapkido practice, go follow your teacher.
I do think that those forms should not contracdict that what you learn in hapkido. They shouldn't look like your average taekwondo form. They should be smooth, and give the practioner more insight intot the three basic principles of hapkido.

I love the Komo Hyung form... I think Rerun used to do that one on "What's Happenin'"

Are these real forms, or is this guy just getting ready for the next in the string of 80's remakes... "Breakin'"????

"always beware of a Hapkido Player that NEVER cuts his toenails!!!"

- Yeah, him and the one who never washes his feet!

Seriously though, the only 'form' we have in Hapkido is the liability waiver! - I kill me.

Actually, the Dan Bong striking patterns are taught using a diagram and a 'form' of sorts. But this is the only thing that might qualify in any of the Hapkido training I have ever done.

Sounds about right. At first I thought it was some sort of a chicken dance.

Greetings

When those forms are done well they look great, my partner Roy won a few 1st place in forms competetions.

I also liked them when I did them but I'm not really a forms guy so I forgot them.

FYI

My biggest shock is how much time he must have taken learning those forms. Wasted time. Imagine the sweat we have dropped trying to properly execute our stance, our breath, and our technique. That is hard training and earned experience. I would venture that this guy spent a large portion of the same time being misdirected, lost, and kinda disrespectful. What a waste of training and energy and focus! I scratch for training time in my busy schedule while this guy chose to fluff off with all his time to do these crappy forms. Its just not fair! waaaaaa!

Since we're on the subject of Kuk Sul WRONG and Hapki-do'NT, how about
the Korean Kicking art of Take-One's-Dough

Actually the subject was poorly executed forms claiming to be Hapkido. Nobody is bashing any styles and we're not going to start.

"My biggest shock is how much time he must have taken learning those forms."

I don't think he took too long, those are the shoddiest examples I've ever seen of those forms... wow.

Regarding forms in hapkido, Myung Kwan Sik created a few forms, they're alright. I'm not big on them, but they're forms and his hapkido is real hapkido.

Edit: My god his Gum Moo Hyung is bad... so bad. That is one truly beautiful form when done properly.

I don't think they are the best examples of KSW hyung's I've seen performed.

KSW hyung's perfomed correctly look really beautiful and graceful.

those KSW swords forms I've seen done by some of the pioneers are pretty cool too..
