Dear all,

I would like to meet Kendo-ka from Brunei or anyone who knows the contact information of the Kendo sensei in the Brunei Kendo club. I would like to get his contact info so that I can introduce Iaido into Brunei. :)

Brian

A quick search at Kendo World shows no posts with the word "Brunei" in it. So I don't think you checked there. And a google search turns up this link (http://www.bruneistudent.com/board/index.php?showtopic=9344) on the first page of results. You're not trying very hard.

That is what I did in Kendo World. I post this thred here because there are a variety of martial arts here so even karate people from Brunei can see this post. They might be able to help me too. Thanks for the link to that site, but I have to tell you that it was from that article that I know Brunei is starting it's own Kendo club. I came from that country and so many martial arts, even Kendo, failed to be established because no one is allowed to carry any weapons. The police there have no guns. It is illegal for them to carry guns. Our soldiers do not train with guns either. Aikido was illegal because they learn to use bokken and jo. It was from that article that surprises me of how much the government has begun to have an open mind, and that is what motivated me to introduce Iaido into Brunei. Once again, thank you very much for your help.

Can you point me to the thread on KW? I can't find it.

i meant that i searched for brunei, towns in brunei, kendo in brunei, iaido in brunei, and lots more but i couldnt find any...so i posted here instead... my chances of finding martial artists in brunei will be higher and not limited to only kendoka... someone in the martial arts circle in brunei might have the contact information of the kendo sensei there... and what is wrong with you... why are you trying to attack everything i do or say??? do i have anything against you? if i do, let me be the first to say, Sorry.

I'm not trying to attack you, just understand you. Kendo world is a great resource. All you need do is just post there. If nothing comes of it, too bad. But as a place for connecting with other kendoka, it's way better than here. I've been surprised to find how many kendoka in out of the way places read KW. So my advice is, try there. Clearly you're not getting much action here.

Our soldiers do not train with guns either.

That's pretty bizarre. They have two infantry brigades, missiles, and light armor but don't train with guns?

haha, i wudnt say they dont train wit guns. in fact, loaded holsters are common on patrolling officers. hardly used, yes. not trained, no.

nevertheless, the main issue here is weapon arts. brunei is no different from other countries. most, but not all, martial arts weapons are fine, provided the paperwork and permits. some notorious ones such as the 3-section staff (like a very big nunchaku) is illegal to be carried around (i think) even in a country like china, the land of martial arts ;) jet li rocked in fearless!

I was just picturing an infantry that spends its days practicing the writing of sternly-worded letters. :D

I wouldn't have guessed that they would have much of a problem with something like a three-sectional staff, since it's near impossible to conceal and requires so much open space to use. Also, I would imagine that it would be rather difficult to rob someone at three-sectional-staffpoint.
