My email went as follows:
Why is it that the current women's heavyweight champion Sioux Gerow not being allowed to defend her title in the upcoming "Challenge of the Champions" when she had requested the opportunity to do so many times?

And wrote an email to Vladimir Borodin.
Political crap should be left outside the dojo....
Good luck guys!

Thanks for support folks!
I got an email from Vladimir, spoke to the promoter and got a call from the head of the USKBA.
It was their mistake, there are no female Thaiboxing fights and No female heavyweight fights on the card.
I guess no one wants to play with me.....

Umm...no offense Sioux, but I felt your kicks. I wouldn't want to play with you either. :)

Yeah I have had men who wont hold a kicking shield for her.
You should have meet her before her chain of injuries.
She is back on track though.
No I want to get her a MMA fight.
Jeff
I'm glad to hear its being straightened out :)

Just out of curiousity, have you spoken to any other female fighters from previous tournaments? Compared notes? We are a pretty close knit circle (from around the nation), the coaches even more so. Just a suggestion.

Thats a lot of gold your holding there.

Coaches can be a part of the problem.
One of the promoters / coaches from that event does not teach women.
Politics is another. There was a split between gyms and when we took some fights promoted by one of the off shoot gyms we suddenly were no longer invited to other fight events.
Jeff
Understood. That also makes a lot more sense.
My reason for asking was this: The womens divisions don't bring in as much as the mens divisions. Occasionally, a tournament host will try and more or less attempt to bury the women's divisions. I have actually not known this to happen in YEARS - but that is not to say that it hasn't, won't or never will again.

Um, I think the "child abuse" fight(as Jeff likes to call it) has left no one raring to clean my clock. That girl disappeared as soon as it was done. I wanted to tell her she was really courageaous to stay in there and keep trying, too. I think the camaraderie that you see with the guys doesn't really reach into the women's full contact realm.
Eric(Knopp)'s last fight he wanted to buy the guy a beer after, only he was too young.
I don't see that happening with my opponents.
I do understand the Tournament circuit thing Eliz. mentioned from the local Karate events we attend. I know all the women I am going to compete with there, and it's a pretty relaxed and friendly thing.
This is definitely different. Most full contact female fighters seem to be under 130. Very few heavyweights. Few in San Da and even fewer in Muay Thai, at least in this country. Heck, if there are no females in my weight class in the US I'll be able to make the 2008 Olympic team for San Da just because I won't even have to qualify...that would really be ridiculous! Hmmm, maybe that should be a goal, if it weren't for equestrian I'd probably get to be the oldest person on the Team!

"no one raring to clean my clock"
Hmmm sounds like your getting cocky. Maybe Ill go fight in drag.
"I know all the women I am going to compete with there, and it's a pretty relaxed and friendly thing. "
Oh dont make me bring up your double disqualification.
Two big factors.
There are not alot of women in full contact.
People dont take women's figths seriously.
Maybe there is a discrimination lawsuit in there somewhere. That might light a fire under some butts to find female fighters.

Tony she fights heavy weight.
Erik...
Early days of competition, point fighting, loss of tempers. Everyone deserves a freebee in the learning process.
Overall I thought it was pretty funny.

Tony she fights heavy weight.
What's considered heavyweight for women? Boxing rules put men's heavyweights as over 200 lbs, women's as over 175 lbs. I'm finding it harder to find consistent rules for kickboxing/muay thai. I've got one listing of women's heavyweight division as over 150 lbs, another as over 145. ...
Ah, I just thought to check the USKBA site, since that was the organization mentioned. Women's heavyweight division = 168 lbs & over. Too bad, I'm pretty certain there's no women from our school competing at that weight.

I'm suprised that there aren't more people in her division.

Women who weigh in at over 168 pounds of lean muscle are in a definite minority.
I know a few female powerlifters and olympic weightlifters that fit the bill but they don't kickbox...

They dont have to be lean. Fightgrrl isnt ripped.
She is over 175lbs (I should say no more on the topic).

There was a girl 189 in my wrestling district, she was a crowd favorite. The funniest part was that she babysat for one of our JV wrestlers (82 pound) and so she took advantage of the JV matches to throw him around.
EDIT: not in a match, just in the warmup periods.

Sioux last fight in Sanda got the most excitement out of the crowd.
One of the coaches / promoters who doesnt train women ask her to do an exhibition against a man. Fightgrrl refused. Its a no win for the guy. if you win you beat up a girl, if you lose you lost to a girl.
Jeff
Is there something wrong with losing to a girl?
Some PRACTIONERS (male and female) can't get past gender blocks - others can.
I understand Sioux decision. In an unknown situation, go conservative. Another key phrase was the person who proposed the match did not teach women. You just never know if he wants to use the opportunity to prove to the community "why" he won't train women.

Bingo Eliz
"Is there something wrong with losing to a girl?"
For most guys yes.
Jeff
Ah... I hadn't thought of that Eliz. :/ I guess I'm just naive still.

I wouldn't want to fight a woman. Call it old fashioned, call it conservative. Unless she's seriously trying to hurt me, I ain't doin' it.

Trust me, you fight Sioux, she will hurt you.

Mildly intimidating, then? :D
Heck, I know I'd be intimidated.
...
That's supposed to be a compliment.
