It is Brazilian JiuJitsu.
A derivative of Judo, concentrating on ground grappling.

Actually, the modern UFC and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu aren't as inter-related as most people might think. Mixed Martial Arts by definition of the words, implies that not any one style has a monopoly on the majority of techniques.

Sure, the first few UFC's were more of a showcase for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, as Royce Gracie walked-all-over his competition. But now everybody works some kind of stand-up, some kind of clinch-work, and some kind of ground game. Every BJJ guy I know (who fights) crosstrains in Western or Thai Boxing. My MMA instructor started-out as a wrestler, but doesn't consider himself either a "ground guy" or a "stand-up guy". Anyway, the point; UFC does not = BJJ.

If you really want to see some good BJJ, watch the Abu Dhabi.

It's a lot like Judo, only less polite.

Oh, and the uniforms are more colorful.

Yeah, instead of saying "let's go play", y'all are like "let's go roll".

Nah Kurt, it's a lot more subtle than that, brother. All I get is this strange little nod from the guys that whup my a$$ all the time - an odd mix of impishness and intimidation. That nod is my "invitation" to get on the mat and have them hand my butt to me. ;) No words are exchanged; just eye contact, and that weird little nod....

Sometimes, I really hate that nod. A couple weeks ago, after some hard rolling, I was trying to blend in with the wall and take a breather while we were switching partners. As I was stalling...I mean re-focusing, I can just feel eyes on me. As I look up, one of the other students is kneeling there, looking fresh as a daisy, just waiting for me to make eye contact so that he can give me the "nod." What can I do? Sometimes, you just got a whoopin' coming your way.

Ah, another one who gets the "nod." Michael, I feel a moment of supreme dispair yet extreme elation when I get the "nod." I feel worthy, yet I feel destined for total anihilation....or even worse yet, actually getting something on the senior rank, and then paying for it later, over and over again....

It's pretty much 2 people wrestling and throwing each other around trying to kill each other without actually killing each other. TONS of fun!

There's no sound more satisfying (or gruesome) than that of a bone snapping under the preassure of over 400+ combined pounds of bodyweigt. :D
