can somebody tell me how to do the neck crank? i ALWAYS end up getting this move on somebody 100% of the time even against higher belts but when i do it the opponent never feels anything. i feel that if i learn how to do this properly this will be my bread and butter move.

you know the neck crank where you are on top and off to the side a little and you have a reverse headlock. like what are the physics of it.

the one in the guard, like wrestlers like. if they are really pulling you in and toward them and making your guard pass difficult, wait till they raise their head and snatch it with both your hands, bring their head toward you and downward, resting all your weight on their neck, trying to levitate off the floor via their neck. the quicker the better, most people can defend if given warning or enough time. They will break their closed guard, start walking their hips backward releasing the pressure from their neck, putting them in sitting open guard, or they with frame out their arms to your face or neck trying to break your hold.

You two are talking about two different neck cranks.

The one sprite was asking about is the neck crank from side control. In this situation, you're cranking the neck from a headlock-type grip, and you're in the reversed side control position. That is, instead of being directly chest-to-chest with your opponent, you've switched your hips so that your back leg is now closer to his head, and you're almost on your side, facing towards your opponent. As you crank the neck, you want to think about rolling over, curling your opponent's spine with you as you go.

The other technique is commonly referred to as a can-opener. If you're in someone's closed guard, you lace your hands behind his head, and pull it towards you and into his own chest as hard as you can. This is a very low-percentage submission as the escape is simply to open your guard and scoot your hips away. However, this can make it an extremely effective method for opening someone's guard.

If you're in a can opener, the easiest way to get out is to simply break guard and sit up. You can also go for the armbar from the guard if the crank isn't hard enough to prevent you from switching your hips and sinking the arm bar in.

This is a slightly different version of the neck crank you are talking about (I don't think I've seen a lot of people pinning the shoulder like in this version); but it's the closest thing I could find with good pictures.

It appears you've been banned... so this doesn't really matter, but Dan Severn has made several instructional videos on all different neck cranks; and believe it or not if you want to learn a neck crank he's a hell of a teacher for it, and his videos are actually very detailed.

I believe neck cranks are illegal in most BJJ tourny's so you'd probably be best off getting a Severn video to learn them.
