I'm unfamiliar with the BJJ lineage and know there are a few Gracies running around but I've never heard of this one before. I was looking for BJJ schools in minnesota and a website for his school came up. It says hes related to (possibly son of) Carlos Gracie. I was just wondering if anyone is familiar with him and his expertise. The website claimed that there were only three (i think) other "living" BJJers ranked higher in the world then him and that he has trained Victor Belfort.
This is the site:

That's correct. He is Carlos's son.
He also has a son himself so he is a Sr. while his son is a junior.
My BJJ sensei was a student of his and got his ranking from him.
Here's a link (http://bjj.org/a/alpha.html#G)
It's in alphabetical order.

From my perspective he is a great BJJ coach!
He has trained many a BJJ champion. However,
many of them have eventually left him for one
reason or another. Seriously though if you are
looking to hone your technique and be on the
cutting edge you would be hard pressed to
train under anyone better than Carlson Gracie Sr.
Good Luck.

Sweet. It always good to hear that there is someone of that caliber within a reasonable distance to train with.
Thanks

Carlson is reportedly ... "cantakerous". He's ole school and has little time for people who dont' show him proper respect. But he knows his Jiu Jitsu.

600 fights? I did like the army ranger training video they've got though.

Carlson is highly respected in the BJJ community. He's one of the old boys. He also has trained a LOT of successful BJJ'ers. It really says something that when they talk about grapplers and MMAists, they will specifically say, "So and So is a Carlson Gracie Jiu Jitsu student."
Carlson was a great fighter also.
Carlson is arguably at the very top of the food chain as far as BJJ goes. No one has anywhere near the number of champion students that he has. As far as students leaving him? Well, many have gone off on their own and formed their own teams and raised their own black belts.
For example, Carlson trained Andre Pedernerais who founded Nova Uniao with Wendel Alexander.
Carlson trained virtually all of the core members of the Brazilian Top Team, including Sperry, Bustamante, Barretto and Liborio. Liborio founded the American Top Team with Conan and Marcelo Silveira.
Carlson trained DeLaRiva, the originator of the DLR Guard position.
Marcus Soares, the highes ranking BB in Canada was under Carlson.
Carlson has had a hand in training the best of the best BJJ BBs.

Carlson was a great fighter also.
It was the young Carlson who avenged Helio's loss to Waldemar Santana.

Fletch1 is correct. He is the top of the food chain for BJJ!
