Dale deserves that 15th dan.
So well done from me.
Dale a stud... Ummm well I don't know about that since he wears a skirt! :)
Congrats though to a well deserving individual though!

The Hombu Dojo walls have ears, it seems. . . ;)
It feels a bit weird knowing I've received my last promotion from Hatsumi sensei, because I still feel like a beginner and there is still SO much to learn from him and from the Japanese shihan even after these 22 years of training.
I absolutely, totally never saw it coming. . .Soke's class on Sunday, 11/27 was packed, as it usually is just before Daikomyosai. I'd already been through Nagato sensei's class just before Soke's, so I was nicely warmed up and tenderized already. :D As he customarily does, Soke called a mid-class tea break; I stood around and chatted with people for about 10 minutes, then decided I'd better grab a drink right then if I was going to at all, and made my way through the crowd to my pack at the other end of the dojo.
I'd just gotten there when I heard Soke calling, "Dale Seago-san!!" and I thought, "Oh crap, we're starting again and he wants me to demonstrate something!". So I went plowing back through the crowd back toward the kamidana, where Soke was standing with a bit of space around him.
Holding what turned out to be a 15th-dan menkyo, which he handed to me when I finally got up there.
He then began doing calligraphy and ink paintings for people who requested them, as he typically does on Sundays. I'd never asked him for one before; but this time I did ask for something specific. . .something he himself says constantly.
He brushed the kanji for "Gambatte" -- "Keep going!". :)
Jay, something you in particular will appreciate: Soke had announced at the end of the Daikomyosai training that he would teach his usual Friday night class at Hombu, which is something he often does NOT do after an event like this. Apparently a lot of people had to fly home right after Daikomyosai, because there were only a hundred or so in the dojo on Friday night. :p Unsurprisingly, the training focused on "confined space" work. One of the last things we did, though, surprised me as he demonstrated slipping through the crowd as effortlessly as an eel. . .then had us doing the same, everyone going in all directions simultaneously in a sort of "Brownian motion". To you, of course, that probably sounds quite familar. :D
Cool beans. I like hearing stories like that type of training. Cool stuff.
Congratulations also on your promotion.

15th dan? Wow! No wonder your advise on Ganseki nage was so helpful.
I'm impressed.
