I have a few people competing full contact this weekend in New Jersey.
Fightgrrl may fight in both Sanda and Muay Thai (seprate tournaments in the same venue on that day) are full contact tournaments (meaning you could fight multiple times for each tournament).
Anybody coming to watch let me know.
Not sure of the exact address...check the USKBA webiste.
Jeff

Good luck to your crew.

The BAD news first.
I didn't get any fights. There were no female fighters in myweight class. There was only one female Thai Boxing match. NONE for San Da.
What's the matter with the girl fighters??? I am not the only one.
I basically wanted to cry all day once I found out I wasn't fighting. The emotional hangover after all the prep and stress sucks!
The GOOD news!
Our guys both won.
Ryan did (American rules)Full Contact and won by TKO in 2nd round.
and Meers had the most awesome battle of the day in San Da. Just picture perfect San Da from the new kid who is an awesome warrior!
We have video of both fights, just need a firewire to load them up and see where I can have them hosted so you all can see.
Well, I am still drained from all of this so I think I'll pretty much veg all day.
I'm sorry to hear that you couldn't fight, Sioux.
Congratulations to the winners.
Not only does that show how good they were, but how good a coach they got.
Good job Jeff.
Sorry I missed it.

Sorry to hear there weren't any opponents for you. Hoping you'll have a better experience at your next tournament.

I was nervous for both fighters.
One though very atheltic is not very coachable and just not "scrappy". He also has asthma.
The other has only been with us a few months. I couldnt have asked any more of him. He dominated the whole fight and kept going while totally exhausted.
He made the decisoon to do Sanda instead of Mauy Thai the day before the fight cause he wanted to be able to through.
Minutes after the fight he had his head in the trash can losing his cookies.
Im really bummed Sioux didnt get a fight. All those mornings hitting pads until she puked.
Next time you dont get a female fight a guy.
You would have done ok in American rules without even giving any weight.
Will post video soon.
FIghtgrrl - sorry you didn't get to beat anybody up - Congratulations Jeff on your other students.

I can empathize with how you felt. There's a female brown belt in my dojo who really enjoys competing. She trained extensively in preparation for the New Jersey Sabaki Challenge this past September (I assisted as her moving punching bag a few times) and when she got to the tournament no other girls had entered. She was beside herself with frustration. So our Sensei arranged a trip so she could go to the European Sabaki Challenge in Germany in October. She was able to compete there.
How often does it happen to you that you train for a tournament and no other female fighters show?
I have the same problem...
I asked to fight the guys at some smaller tournaments when there were no women... they said no. I have mixed feelings about this. If I traveled all the way to a tournament I want the experience of a fight. I don't care how beat up I get...
but on the other hand I understand that a lot of guys feel bad/guilty/ or stupid depending on whether they beat up or lose to a girl...
I try to put myself in their shoes... its probably the same way I would feel if I was fighting a 12 year old...

There was only one women's bout in Muay Thai and San Da and I think the match was made with one from each and they agreed to no throws and did Thai.
There are very few women fighting in any division over 140lbs. Look at all the fighting associations for full contact stuff. The bigger you are the harder you can hit and get hit.
Also, the boxing commission won't let you fight mixed sex for the most part in any state unless it's some prearranged demo. And they seem to be the ruler of full contact everywhere I've been. So for full contact tourneys I won't have the option. I probably could have fought IN MY WEIGHT class doing American rules at this tournament too.
There is definitely much no way I could do Muay Thai or San Da without getting a lot of weight leeway.
So Charles is the woman from your dojo going to the DC Area knockdown?

The last I heard she was planning to compete. When I find-out for sure I'll post it here.
I understand Enshin Sabaki tournaments will pair women competitors against each other regardless of their weight class if there aren't enough entries to form separate weight divisions, which is how it usually is.
For example, if you look at the results page for all the Sabaki Challenges on Enshin's honbu site, it shows only one women's division each year. In our DC tournament last year, we had only one women's division for all entries.

Nobody has put it on a disc yet. Of of the fighters said he was going to put it on the net and send me a link.

So Charles is the woman from your dojo going to the DC Area knockdown?
I spoke to her last night after training and she's reluctant to enter because she missed a month-and-a-half of training over the holiday break. We gave her some encouragement to consider entering because we know of at least one other female fighter from another school who wants to enter. She has a few more days to decide.
I sparred with her last night during training and she doesn't seem out-of-shape to me. I have more bruises and soreness this morning than I usually do after kumite training.

Yes, she did decide to compete. I look forward to watching her match.
