What little I know is that they were initially Salvadorian guerillas.

I know there is a growing population of the MS-13 in the Washington D.C. and Maryland area. There was a gang related murder of a pregnaunt former member a few months back that made big waves in the local news. I also saw a preview for a documentary special about them. Hopefully I can catch the special.

There was a special on them the other night on tv. Can't remember the station. But a message came out at work for the crew to be on the look out for them. I know they take pride in killing leo's. Part of there gang is to get revenge after they are deported by killing the arresting officer. From what I understand they will be deported upon identification. We were made aware of the situation because there is reportedly a growing number working on fishing boats. I know there is a noticeable presence in about 33 states right now. I was just wondering if any of you guys had any experience with them or knew of them.

MS-13 is a very bad group. It is run as a highly organized criminal entity. They are involved in everything from drug and arms smuggling, to human smuggling across the southern border states, muder for hire and running protection for the Gulf Cartel in Mexico.

I have a very detailed power point presentation on MS-13, but I cannot load it here. The file is too big, or the website won't accept powerpoint files. Regardless, it contains a history of MS-13 along with pictures and such. I cannot claim credit for it because a good bit of it comes from a presentation from one of the gang schools I have been to. I have added some of my own, and also shortened it a bit. It truly is the product of someone else's hard work, as this person is Dallas PD's resident MS-13 expert and deserves all the credit. If anyone would like a copy send me a PM with your e-mail address and I will send it to you. It is on powerpoint, so if you do not have powerpoint on your computer, or don't know how to use powerpoint it won't do you much good.

I just watched a special on National Geo channel about MS-13. Apparently it started in L.A. as a group of San Salvadoran kids forming a gang to fight other local gangs. It grew stronger as their members went to jail and learned from the real bad dudes there. The government deported some back to San Salvador where as a result of the civil war there, their brutality increased. Also the deprotation helped spread the group to San Salvador. From there they spread to other countries, they also spread from L.A. to the east coast. They are becomming organized more and more and they are recruiting in elementary schools, middle schools, jails and anywhere else they can.

The special seemed to indicate that there numbers worldwide now are in the tens of thousands. That got me to wondering. What percentage of the people in the world, or in the USA, are violent criminals. I live a fairly sheltered life, that's always been the plan. Keep my family and myself safe. But I also know that there are something like a million people behind bars in this country. At least that's what I have heard. Any LEO out there want to guess what percentage of our population is a hood.

Actually the gang Mara Salvatrucha (MS) originally formed in El Salvador.
They acquired the monicker MS-13 as they spread into southern California and alligned themselves with other Surenos (Southern California) gangs. The 13 in MS-13 refers to their alliance with the Surenos gangs. This began in 1994. Not all of the Mara Salvatrucha sets moniker themselves as MS-13. Many of the older sets, hold to their roots and are simply Mara Salvatrucha.

Los Angeles are MS members consider themselves the "cream of the crop". They want all other MS sets to be just like themselves. Like I posted earlier, MS didn't attach the "13" moniker until they moved into Southern California. This is due to them agreeing to allign themselves with the Surenos, who identify by the number "13".
