View Full Version : Other Martial Art Superstars
How come no one ever mentions action superstars like Ron Van Clief or Dragon Lee? Even though their impact wasn't very huge, they did contribute a lot to maritial arts. Dragon Lee was probably the only Bruce Lee clone with a potential, and Ron Van Clief was a solid fighter. He even competed in the early days of UFC to Royce Gracie at like 50 yrs old.

Ron Van Clief was a great technical fighter, and is around 65 years old now. He created his own style, and from what I've seen, it is very effective. Van Clief wasn't real big in the movies, though. His star pupil, Taimak (The Last Dragon) made a good showing, and Van Clief coreographed the fight sequences.

I believe it is a matter of exposure Digi. A lot the the major Martial Arts films were "B" level movies at best, therefore keeping exposure to those seeking out the genre of films.
Guys like Jean Claude Van Dam were in big Hollywood productions with much larger publicity machines pushing them. In otherwords, they were more mainstream. When Bruce Lee came about, there just wasn't anything like him in the American movie scene so he drew a lot of attention....as far as I know anyways, I was just an infant at the time.
