I hate to play Gene's role. But what is it with all of the teenagers over running the board with posts that are full of sentence fragments and improper grammar? You guys are still in high school; english class should still be fresh in your minds. Take a note from the other people that have been here for a while. They type logical posts in proper english. Mistakes happen when typing but to not even try just shows ignorance.

Do a thread search Mike. These questions are asked once a week at least.
If still have questions after doing some reading someone will help you out.
also...
Picking a martial art to "kick a**" is a pretty immature statement that won't go over well here.

Cheers

It depends from school to school. Kung Fu as an art I would have to say is effective. 16 is definately not too old to start a martial art. If you are just joining the kung fu school to learn how to kick *** I would reevaluate my reasons for starting any martial art.

Ok... here are your answers...

is kung fu an effective martial art? Yes.

i mean im gonna start taking it soon i don't want to be in some fancey ineffective **** you know. if i get in a fight i wanna be able to kick ***. will kung fu allow me to do that?
Yes but not the way you want so don't bother...

and im 16, am too old to be starting now?
Yes... just like the Jedi... too old for the training... now go & be a simple merchant.

i wanted to start earlier but i couldnt find a good place and when i did i couldnt afford it. im planning on taking jeet kung do and muay thai after kung fu because i've heard some good things about them and i also want to get into ufc cage fighting when i'm older( i'm gonna probably get my *** kicked)

Yes... you will get owned repeatedly because you're looking for quick & easy, not tried, true & proven.

I don't mean i'm actually gonna go out and start fights. When i said kick *** I meant like a really cool fighting style thats not second rate.

Most people will agree that it is more of what you put into it than what style it is. If you train one hour a week in BJJ/MMA/anything you will probably get beat by anybody with a more serious training regimen regardless of style. I would reccomend that you first check out the local schools and see which one you like. Consider how skilled the coaches/teachers are and how hard they are working out.

I already found a school. It's some Bo Law Kung Fu Federation. I think they practice Shaolin Kung Fu; it's in Manhattan and all I know is the address. Does anybody know anything about this school.

http://www.bolawkungfu.com/ This it? It seems a little off to me but perhaps some of our CMA experts could offer their oppinions.

I live in New York City. If anyone one can find a great place for me, it will be greatly appreciated.

In a real street fight, cool is the last thing on your mind. Survival is first. Staying out of trouble with the law is second. If at all possible, walk away or stay from the fight BEFORE it starts.

Any MA instuctor worth training with will tell you up front it is always better to avoid a fight.

At 16, you are not too old to start anything, in fact you are still to young to start many things.

Find a school that you are comfortable with. Good is relative to your desires.

Peace

Go to Bo Law... They have what you need. Bring a book though for Sei Ping Ma training... :D

Oh I know... he's top notch. Nothing at all wrong with NY Sanda & Sifu Ross. But he doesn't do what this guy is looking for & won't.

Bo Law is the place for him to be.

Chris... 4 Level Horse... Chinese for horse stance particular to Southern CMA... which is what Bo Law teaches. Think all of the Gordon Liu movies with the parallel leg stance training...
