I'm not a military person, but I can see huge problem coming our way. I just saw a video describing "the new bootcamp" on foxnews.com. I can't find a link to the video, sorry. but, it's entitled "Boot Camp Lite" under the "Only on Fox" section.

Can't find it, all I see on "Only on Fox" is:

Brutal Baghdad Bombing
Reporter's Notebook: City remains target for enemies of freedom Use of Force
Video: New defense system acts like 'force field' against RPGs
Bitter Budget Battle
Video: House Republicans and Dems struggle over spending as vote nears Bush Job Rating Sinks
FOX Poll: Bush approval rating now at 36 percent — matching his lowest
Wedgies Are No Laughing Matter
Out There: Teacher is busted for tugging on student's skivvies A Decade of Junk Science
Opinion: After 10 years of myth busting, wacky notions persist

And a site search of "Boot Camp Lite" only brings up some weight loss thing.

Had the same problem, but then I noticed menu buttons on top of the screen. I clicked on the one that said "video" => "only on Fox" => "Boot Camp Lite"... and there it was.

Just logged in to double-check, and now that menu bar is gone.

Didn't see the video, but I get the impression it was bad. I think there is a little too much PC in the military sometimes. I called a former DI a liar to her face a couple of times a few years back. We were talking on the train between Seoul and Daegu and she told me about "Stress Cards" recruits were issued. If the recruit got too "stressed out" during training, he/she gave the card to the DI and got to sit down until the company cdr showed up to talk with the recruit. Had to apoligize later because some of my NCOs verified her story. I can just imagine people like 1SG Doyle, MSG Stockton, and MSG Andrews reacting to a "Stress Card". Oh well, the other day in Kroger there was a junior ROTC cadet that thought it was really funny that I called her on being more out of uniform than in. (she got back in uniform and her ROTC instructor didn't think it was funny.)

Perhaps it meant boot camp on Mac OS X (http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/)?

I'll be enlisted in a year and a half and if boot camp doesn't absolutely whoop my @$$ I'm gonna be disapointed.

I found the link and then e-mailed the shortcut to myself. Try this. When the video window pops up, scroll down and look for Boot Camp Lite...

Ok, I have never been in the military so I am speaking from a complete outside perspective.

At least 8 hours of sleep a night, all you can eat relaxed chow, use of cell phones to call home whenever they want, elimination of yelling at recruits except in the rare case of actual refusal to follow orders..........doesn't sound like a boot camp to me. I thought the whole purpose was to break them down then build them back up into hard charging warriors that follow orders under the stress of combat. I don't see this "new" boot camp doing that.

Oh great! We're screwed!

Do they receive a teddy bear with a camo baby-tee upon entrance into the gates?

A more gentler and caring military?

Takes all the fun out of the old pastime fun of taking over a new country of raping, murdering and ccausing mayhem....

Oh sorry, that's our military :D

And, by logical extension, so are we (UK).

Lucky Al-Quaeda don't get Fox, isn't it? I don't see well-rested fat soldiers texting their girlfriends bid-battle striking fear into their hearts...

you can just see them all running away when one shot is fired. Next thing you know, petticoats and high tea on the lawn.

All I can say is that current Army basic training is a laugh compared to when I went through it in '84. Have heard too much about the stress cards and the like. Physical fitness is BS for the majority coming in even in my national guard units. I could keep going but I won't. It's really sad though looking back at how much has changed. Although change is generally good, I don't believe it is in this way.

I have not been successful at finding that video much less to get it play. I'm taken to the page with the link but it won't do anything beyond that.
What I did find probably says a lot like it (going by what has been posted here).

I just watched the video. That is very shocking. I am by no means going to claim that Coast Guard boot camp is extremely hard or anything it is more of a 8 week inconvenience. But we definately weren't allowed to have are cell phones and 8 hrs of sleep sounds good but you never get it. You have watches at night. We were scheduled for 8hrs of sleep a night but that didn't mean the instructors were letting us go to bed at 2200. You always had atleast one watch a night and two alot of times. Sleep deprivation is the hardest part about Coast Guard bootcamp. The Coast Guard definately doesn't have stress cards either. I think some of what was on that video was fluff. Sure you can eat as much as you want, but lunch is only for a set amout of time which in my experience wasn't even long enough to finish the plate they give you. The same thing with sleep, you can be scheduled for 10hrs of sleep a night but it definately doesn't mean you get it. As far as cell phones I don't know everything we brought was searched and anything like cell phones were taken away.

I don't think anyone had cell phones when I went through it. Everything we did have when signing in was confiscated and we were lucky to get it back when we completed training. :p

All they're doing is following the Air Force's lead. :)Hey! I just read that part of the thread! Well..... So what?

Seriously, they are following the lead of the senoir officer corps. I once had a commander cut our jumps back because he felt it was too dangerous! I challenged him and he said he would not know what to tell the Airman's parents if he got killed in a peace time jump. He refused to understand.

On the other hand I do recall Hugh Shelton pushing his way to front of the stick on a night jump. But he's gone now.
