Who is still a NRA member? I was for YEARS. I finally let my dues lapse years 10 years ago or so. I paid my dues on a regular basis but it got to where they were calling me on the phone and sending special mailings asking for more money on a weekly basis.

Every time some piece of legislation was introduced somewhere in the world that had an anti-gun overtone to it the NRA wanted more money. Wayne seemed so interested in our rights to own an Uzi at that time I thought he was going to lose our rights to shotguns and rifles.

I sort of miss the American Rifleman magazine. I would join again if the NRA would promise not to badger the hell out of me for more money every time some alderman wanted to pass a local gun control law somewhere in BFE.

Me, but after many years I am going to let it lapse. I'm sick of the badgering for more donations, and sending of unsolicited 'gifts' which they expect sent back if you don't pay for them. Since any unordered products received through the mail are yours to keep by law, I keep 'em all and when they call say "Thanks". Don't like guilt-trip marketing.

I support many of their initiatives and what they are doing, but I can't stand the pestering. They called my wife all the time while I was in Iraq, bothering the crap out of her with their little scripted spiels, and I don't appreciate that.

Didn't used to be this way...if they were hurting they used to send a letter, but would never badger you at your house by phone. I used to actually send them more once in awhile but now I refuse to.

The American Rifleman is great, especially "The Armed Citizen', but it isn't worth the hassle of telemarketer-style calling all the time.

When you let your dues lapse you are going to get pestered. They will want you back. That is what they did to me about 10 years ago.

Can't one be a member without giving out your phone number?
I've thought about for years, but every time I was about to breakdown I hear some horror story. Very much like what's posted.

Same. I was a member for a long time, but got tired of the bs. I miss those magazines, too, but my dentist let's me have his old ones. :) I would like to be a member again, but not if the badgering is still the MO. :(

Ask to be put on the "do not solicit" list and make any and all donations directly to the NRA-ILA. Donations to the NRA can be used for anything and mostly go to solicit more money, donations to the NRA-ILA can ONLY be used to combat anti gun legislation and promote pro gun legislation.

I am a member and have been for quite a few years. I often get stuff in the mail but I never get phone calls from them. If I get a request for money I just chunk it. I understand they need/want plenty of money to fight the legal battles and sometimes they do go overboard. But when they come to the rescue such as when the citizens of Louisiana were being unlawfully disarmed then I feel my dues are being well spent.

They may not be perfect but with the bleeding heart liberals trying to ban firearms the NRA is the best we have right now.

Luckily, this is about the time I retire and they will have to do some heavy-duty sleuth work to even find me. I appreciate the good work they do but I wonder how many formerly loyal members they have turned off with their aggressive tactics. If they do get a hold of me, I will tell them in no uncertain terms why I desire my membership terminated.

Member of the NRA for years and mine has also lapsed. I am seriously considering signing back up, as I do miss my magazine. I never really got pestered that much, although it did happen occasionally. I have been thinking about looking into Gun Owners of America, or one of the other groups.

You guys might wanna rejoin. With the whole amnesty thing the Democrats are probably gonna regain both the House and Senate, if not the Presidency.

Guys...it's as simple as being asked to be put on the NRA "Do not solicit" list.

I'm a Life Member. I usually chuck all of the mail solicitations and keep the stuff they send to me. I never get called, but have moved twice since becoming a LM.

NRA isn't perfect, but think of where we would be without them.

Life member here. I have the previous years American Rifleman shipped to me so I can read them and catch up on old news. I just finished 2005.

I agree with Chris, it isn't a perfect organization and they are always needing money to lobby and fight in court. That's the way the world has turned though. Just imagine if you lived in a country where it is a crime to own a firearm (hint-hint).

I'm a member. Let it lapse a while back for the reasons listed above. Rejoined about a year ago. Don't get too many phone calls anymore. I think I just told three or four solisitors in a row that the calls were making me unhappy.

I am a member. I just ingore all the stuff they send me. The bottom line is that the NRA has the political clout to give us the best chance of preserving our 2nd Ammendment rights. When I start to get angry about their solicitation, I remember this and continue to support them. The 1990's could have been disasterous for gun owners if it weren't for them. Just think of the vitriol sent their way by the President during that time period. Obviously they were quite effective in thwarting some of his plans.:bandit:
