View Full Version : MP5 = awesome
Just got to fire an MP5 9mm submachine for the first time. It was the first time I ever fired anything larger than a handgun. That gun is the sweetest gun I have ever laid my eyes and hands on. There seemed to be almost no recoil, and those rounds were flying down range like they were guided missiles - it felt like I couldn't miss (although I'm sure more than a few rounds didn't hit the paper Osama targets).
I have to say I'm so jealous of you LEO SWAT guys that get to train with this weapon on a regular basis. I now know why this gun is the weapon of choice for CQB. I'm still pumped up from the experience.
I wonder if you guys felt the same way your first time?
Now if I could only get my hands one of these babies, because the only thing better than an MP5 must be the MP5-SD3...

Yeah, I have had the pleasure to play with a few myself.
They are just about as fun as it gets.
Yeap, I have one assigned to me.
You're in NY I doubt you' ll be able to own one up there.

Yeah, I think you have to be a "Class 3 Dealer" (some sort of federal license?) to own one of those... :(

If you're in NYC, a writ from the Pope would be good too - even to get a semi-auto version.
They're a lot of fun. I loved the graphics on the selector lever, in lieu of words:
safe: picture of bullet with an X over it
semi: one bullet
auto: whole bunch of bullets

Yeah, I actually am in NYC. This city is a real pain in the *** in which to get a gun permit, especially handguns. It took 9 months just get my first pistol, from the "permit interview" to the actual distrubution of the voucher.
The best question was, "Do you have any intention of shooting your employer or commit any other violent felonies?" Idiots. Who's going to reply, "Yeah, as soon as I get my gun."??

You need to be a Class 3 (FFL/SOT) to be a dealer in NFA (machine guns, etc.) items. You do NOT need to be a FFL/SOT to own them.
You simply need to be able to 1. Afford them - MP5s are currently about $14,000 + $200 tax stamp and 2. Be lawfully able to own NFA items in your state.

Actually I much prefer the standard MP5 with an add on suppressor such as the Striker II.
The integrally suppressed MP5 is quieter but the ported barrel (which drops standard 9mm to subsonic levels) reduces the effectiveness of the round to something of a "hot" .380 with respect to terminal ballistics.
By using a standard MP5 with an add on suppressor and 147 gr. subsonic 9mm you still get about 32-36db of suppression and much more dramatic terminal ballistics.
Hey SteyrAUG,
Is there any gun you DON'T have? :)
The one on the right seems to have a larger clip - is that for 7.62mm rounds? It almost looks like the G3A4... or is that an MP5A10?
$14K to own one, eh? Maybe I'll stick to handguns... for now.
I will poop a brick if you also own a G36K.

I am pretty sure that is an H&K 53. It's in 5.56 (.223). But I will wait on Steyr to confrim that.

Correct. HK53 in 5.56. You can generally tell by the curved mags.
The 7.62 is the HK51 and uses standard G3/91 mags.

There are no privately held G36s as none were imported prior to the 1968 foreign machine gun ban and no semi auto versions existed (for title II conversion) before the 1986 domestic machine gun ban.
Probably the most expensive one I have is my HK21 (1983 Vollmer conversion with a registered Qualified sear) which I have about $24,000 into.

I paid about $10 - 12,000 for each of my MP5s. I have four of them.
Thanks for the pics, SteyrAUG. You're packing some serious firepower there.
I bet that HK21E is great for crowd control...:D

If you had a HK21 you could just kill the commies and toss their ridiculous gun laws in the harbor with the tea. :D
