Very clever. I'm betting this was a school project. Funny when I think about how many hours and quarters I squandered on these games when I was a university student.

Surpisingly, it seems they only took four hours to shoot the three minute video for the Space Invaders. You'd think it'd take longer.

Oh, and Boing Boing (http://www.boingboing.net/2006/07/19/human_space_invaders.html) states that it "was a project for the festival Belluard Bollwerk International".

I bet it was just the "sitting down, getting up, move to another seat, etc." that took the 4 hours. I would guess that they spent a lot more time beforehand planning out the pixelation, especially for the Space Invaders one.
