View Full Version : What's it called?
Hiya,
I recently started practising Aikido and will begin attending lessons shortly.
I was checking around for something that could help me with my studies and I found this (http://www.aikido3d.com).
I was just wondering; Does anyone happen to know the name of that first technique shown in the banner?
Cheers,

There are actually three separate techniques shown. The first is Shomenuchi Koshi nage, the second is Yokomenuchi Irimi nage, and the third is Yokomenuchi Kote Gaeshi.
Good Luck in your training!!

Hello,
Please do not place too much trust in Aikido 3D. They are too much like the wonderful illustrations in Westbrook & Ratti's Aikido and the Dynamic Sphere. The major premises of that book is that aikido is dynamic and is like a sphere. The first premiss is OK, but the second is seriously wrong.
There is no substitute for a real teacher in a real dojo.
Best wishes,

That is a fairly elaborate koshinage, starting off with a kuzushi [unbalancing], a feint to the throat [nasty but frequently effective] and then the actual throw. Koshinage is an 'uncontrolled projection' in the parlance of my dojo, and therefore frowned upon. It's dynamite if you really have to put somebody on the ground and leave them there, however.
That's a pretty cool site, and if I ever get rich I may invest in the CD just for grins. I agree with Peter that it's no substitute for actual training however...until you feel these techniques both as shite and uke, you won't really understand what's going on.

I have the CD and I think it has value as a training aid. It will be most useful if you follow the Aikikai school.

Yeah. And not only.
It's aikido based on Donovan Waite.
What'd they color the models with-the program's "flesh tone"?
Or has Mr. Waite done a Michael Jackson skin bleach?

I was wondering the same thing.
