My life has currently led me to be able to do something I have always wanted to, study MA in Asia.

I have been involved in Gong Fu, Ninpo, Jujuitsu and Krav Maga throughout my life. But, as my studies have progressed, I am looking for something new. I am also ESPECIALY looking for a school/facility/monestary that has both an emphasis on MA as well as meditation.

The language would be a barrier for a bit, but I am a linguist and an academic scholar/professor of religious studies, particularly mysticism and already speak 4 ;anguages, 2 of which are dead or dying. So if I was able to find somewhere I could find authentic study on both these levels, where I could stumble through at first with the little Japanese I will cram, that would be absolutely ideal.

Any and all information would be *greatly* appreciated.

All the best,

I've been studying Japanese through an online, self paced course called YesJapan. http://www.yesjapan.com

I'm fairly conversational now, and have a decent grasp of the basic kanji.

If you're really into cramming, take a look at this book: Japanese Grammar by Carol and Nobuo Akiyama, ISBN 0764120611. A little over 200 pages long. You'll have a basic grasp of Japanese sentence patterns, vocabulary, and a brief introduction to hiragana, katakana, and kanji.
