This is my first post.

Of course, you don't see a lot of good authentic martial arts video games out there. Also, I'm sure not a lot of you play video games.

The games are either too fictional, or not authentic to be called a fighting game.

I have been playing other games and here are the best I've found if you wish to find real martial arts moves:

Tekken: Despite of the funny names of the moves, it does feature good moves like from Tae Kwon Do, Tang Soo Do, Karate, Muay Thai, Kung Fu, and Capoeira. For PS2.

Mortal Kombat: The game has been out for at least 10 years, and it has improved a lot. The moves are original as the company didn't try to make it seem more amusing by giving them better names. It has pretty much every martial art move you can think of (Karate, Shotokan, JKD, Crane, Muay Thai, etc.), but the "Death Finishing moves" look a little fake. For PS2

The Con: The Con, I figure is one of the more real ones. It takes place as you play as a man that just got out of prison and you want to start a team to join the fight world. The moves seem real, as there are 5different fighting styles: Street Boxing, JKD, Tae Kwon Do, Wrestling (should have been called Ju-Jitsu or something), and Kick Boxing. All the moves are the same for each character, and it gets a little boring, but what is different is, you can make the person a fast skilled person, or a slow, powerful person, plus much more.
Making your own character is fun too. For PSP.

If you guys have any more, just post em here.

Yeah, the latest version of Virtua Fighter rocks. I've been a die hard Tekken fan for awhile, but I feel like Virtua Fighter has overtaken them in the most recent editions of the franchise.

I've heard Dead or Alive is a legitimately cool fighting game, but I've never given it a chance because I always assumed it was garbage.

Also, that last game, The Con, sounds pretty good. Has a console version come out?

Well, I haven't played it, so you can tell me about it. Those posted above are the best ones I've played.

The Con will stay a PSP game, but don't take my word for it.
Oh yeah, you can also make your own combos on it.:bandit:

Well, I'm sure I'm not the best one to tell you about it since I haven't played it in years (back when it was on the Saturn). All I remember was the ninja and the old dude who did drunken kung fu.

The Tenchu series is a cool ninja game and I recently bought Genji the way of the samurai which is pretty good it features the most authentic sword fighting I have seen in any game. I have only played these on the ps2. Also stay away from the sega version of tenchu, it is ok but not as good as the activsion originals which are very cool.

If you have a PS2, rent or buy Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution. It's a GREAT fighting game. The characters are interesting and their styles are representative of a wide range of martial arts (muay thai, judo, karate, aikido, JKD, multple forms of kung fu, and so on...) and it is a very tight, very nuanced fighting engine. It's a little tricky to pick up at first because it's so complicated, but once you get the hang of it, the subtle timing and intricacy of the combat will have you hooked.

UFC - Tapout for xbox is pretty cool

Street fighter series and also Soul Blade is a decent beat-em-up

Streets of rage was always a classic!

And Fight Night Round 3 is good on xbox 360

i have to agree with virtua fighter being awesome. it has to be the realest fighting simulator there is. as for dead or alive, i have definitely enjoyed playing all of them. it's one of the easiest fighting games to play. jet li's game, rise to honor, is really fun for a while. i don't think it's really worth buying. i'm not too fond of mortal kombat, it's just too slow for me. just my opinion

I'd say my favorite fighting games are:

Virtua Fighter 4: very detailed and realistic enough
the Tekken Series: The fighting itself may not be that realistic, but I love the gameplay and it's a lot of fun
Dead or Alive 2: not at all realistic, but a lot of fun
Street Fighter series: fun characters (unrealistic, but fun)

I'm going to oneup Virtua Fighter 4, that game is just sweet. Cept' I hate the mantis guy, he sucks.

Classic game, Karate Champ for NES was killer for its day, very close to real karate point sparring. See Bloodsport for an example.

I was a god at Tekken 3 when it was big. Knew every move for every guy in the whole game, haven't kept up with thenew ones.

Tenchu is also the best ninja game ever.

And I am a big fan of Bushido Blade PS1, I loved that game.

Dude, Bushido Blade rocks. I still play that to this day. Can't believe no one's done a next gen version (or something similar enough) to this game. By far the best weapons dueling fight game out there. Soul Caliber is aweseom, but Bushido Blade was unparalleled in it's realistic style of sword combat. If anyone out there is into swordplay, look for this game in the bargain bin.

i have to agree with josh on tenchu being the best ninja game ever. even if it isn't the best game ever, it actually tries to portray real ninja.....um......."adventures"? anyways, the newest ninja gaiden is one of the coolest (and toughest) action/adventure/martial arts game ever, but it isn't a real ninja game.
