Tai Ji Mantis, anyone hear of it?

Recently I heard of a kunf fu style called Tai Ji Mantis? Anyone hear of this? Is it Tai Ji or Praying Mantis? Internal or External? Southern or Northern? What is the style like? Thanks.

Yes I've heard & seen it. It's supposed to be one of the oldest families of praying mantis from Wang Lang's students. It's either Taiji then Taiji Meihua or vice versa. It's good stuff.

Taiji Mantis is both intenal and external and it is a northern style, not as many forms in the syllabus as some other styles of mantis. There is also Mei Hua (plum flower mantis), both styles are pretty old. Tai Ji Mei Hua Mantis is a fairly new development as I understand it.

Saw it just yesterday, actually. Very mantis-like... couldn't really see much taiji. Then again, it was a novice perferming it.

Hi guys-

I just got back from Taiwan where I met and studed with the # 1 mantis master, Mr. Shu Cheng Chung ( also spelled Shi Zheng Zhong ).

Mr. Shu has mastered the entire systems of secret door mantis, plum flower mantis, 7 star mantis, tai chi mantis, and 8 step mantis. He learned from the top teachers in mainland China .


Ta chi mantis ( also spelled taiji mantis ) is not done like tai chi. It simply uses the name which means "grand ultimate". According to master Shu, tai ji mantis has the best Chin Na ( joint locking ) of all the mantis styles. Each system has its strengths. His personal favorite is the plum flower mantis.

Master Shu has students teaching in Nashville Tennessee, Tampa Florida, Los Angeles California, and in South America.

He will be conducting workshops in the U.S. next year.
