Standard or Tapered Kubaton?

Hard-Plastic Kubotans
This has always been one of my favorites. It is hard as nails, and yet undetectable by metal detectors. It is lightweight and very durable. A steal at this price.

Are they encouraging people to knowingly break the law. :rolleyes:

They're easy to get on eBay or anywhere on the net for that matter. I have both a standard and a pointy one although I don't carry them except during the winter when my jacket is bulky enough that the additional weight is not noticeable (by me).

Actually in the last few months my confidence in my art and skills has gotten to a point where I won't bother even pulling it around everywhere I go. Still useful to have though, if you need to tap out a window really quickly (think burning vehicle, etc.)

I'd much rather carry a mini mag flash light. Its useful for other things as well as thumping bad guys. It can also go places a kuboton or other "weapon" can not go.

Actually in the last few months my confidence in my art and skills has gotten to a point where I won't bother even pulling it around everywhere I go. I'd be careful with that. Realize, that if somebody does jump you, chances are they have a weapon. I have heard of and read about many a martial artist, that was confident in their art, being introduced into the real world of violence, the hard way. I don't know you or your skills, maybe you are that good. But for most of us, being good in the dojo, doesn't mean much to the guy jumping us. Promoting that kind of confidence to people like us, doesn't do us any favors.

Don't interpret that to mean that I think I'm a badass and will readily wander downtown Toronto in the middle of the night, etc. I just mean, under sudden attack the time it takes me to draw the kubotan and use it is no longer worth it now that I have developed a more effective response with simple empty hand.

Bad day either way, although these days I would trust my hands immediately rather than a kubotan two seconds from now.

To add a smidge to Williams post (hope you don't mind).. Performing at your worst in the dojo is the best you can hope for in the street. All too many times I've seen people that rocked on a tatami getting rocked in the real world.

Thats where awareness comes into play. The idea is that you already have the kuboton in your hand, before the attack comes. We tell our girlfriends to get their keys out and have them in their hand before walking to their car. Why should we be any different? Thats the nice thing about this weapon, it is a key chain. When you leave the club at night to walk to your car, it should be in your hand. Anytime you think something maybe up, it should be in your hand.

Sure you can be caught off guard. But I would hate to know I needed it out now, and it not being there. Something about better to have a tool and not need it, then to need a tool and not have it.
