Hello,
I will be in Tokyo, Japan for a year and would like to train in Yoshinkan Aikido. Would it be better if I train at the Hombu or would I be better off at a dojo that teaches in English (I found this dojo with English instruction http://www.roppongi-yoshinkan.com). I don't know any Japanese and it would take about the same amount of time for me to travel to either dojo from home.
Thank you

I actually hosted one of the instructors at my dojo in Himeji.
Both instructors were instructors at Yoshinkan Honbu and the one I know impressed me.
If you have some Yoshinkan background I wouldn't worry about the English. As far as I understand it Yoshinkan Honbu is used to foreigners and in any case most training is very visual.

There used to be some english language courses at hombu, and the dojo in
Roppongi is run by Michael Stuemple I believe. I don't know what language he teaches in, but since he was part of the foriegn instructors cadre at hombu at one point, I'm sure he will give you excellent instruction.
Best,
Ron (Peter's point is good as well)

Don't miss an opportunity to go and train with the Roppokai either. If I were spending that kind of time in Japan, I would spend time there, yoshinkan honbu, and with Aikikai's Hayato Osawa.:D:

Actually if I was in Tokyo for just a year I would choose one teacher where I could maximize my instruction. Find a group where you can train every day.
Sure a couple of side visits but if you spread yourself thin you will only pick up parts.
