Anyone catch the latest Hatton fight? That kid throws nothing but hooks, uppercuts and body shots...maybe not the most talented boxer in his weight class but exciting to watch. I've seen a couple of his fights and there was only one that I wasn't really fond of, he just went to a punch and grab style, but most of the other fights have been pure action the whole way through.

Yeah I've seen Ricky fight a couple of times. Although I'm no expert, I think because he is an unrelenting pressure fighter, he tends to get less credit for his skills than a counter puncher would.
He uses subtle angles, constant pressure, good head movement and a lot of body punches to overwhelm and wear down his competition early. And I think he does it very well.
What fight was the one you weren't fond of? Was it the Kostya Tszyu fight?

It was the fight after Kostya Tszyu. I can't remember the opponent, I was fired up to see him after the great Tszyu fight...I thought he just hammered him. I agree with you, I really like his relentless constant pressure style and he does have a decent defense too.
I don't know too many people who still enjoy boxing, I think MMA and the shady side of boxing (Don King/Mike Tyson/Lack of Judging integrity), have devasted this sport in our country. The good part is that there is more boxing on FSN/ESPN/HBO and less PPV's for two minute knock outs. Boxing now seems to be more competitive, with a few exceptions there are less and less completely dominant fighters in their weight classes out there. I enjoy the international competition.
Ricky hatton lives not to far from me!! Havnt met him yet, but you never know ;) Yes im from the uk x

I rarely get PPV anymore. It's just not worth it. I watch almost all of my boxing on Showtime and HBO live, and PPV fights are now typically showed on HBO the following weekend. If it's a fight I'm really excited about, I'll avoid seeing or hearing who the winner is and watch it later.
Kostya, in my opinion is a much better fighter than Ricky and should have won that fight. I don't think he was prepared for the time zone difference.
Now, Kostya is scheduling an exhibition match while negotiating with a supposed world-class fighter. I believe the rumour mill is suggesting that his opponent will be Oscar DeLahoya! That would be great, but I would LOVE to see Ricky man up and go fight Kostya in Australia....Either of those fights, I wouldn't hesitate to order PPV.

I wouldn't go THAT far.....It came close to going the other way. You can't really see the expression on Rickys face on these pictures because the images are too small....but trust me....it came REAL close.

Now that I think a little more about it, that last picture could have been a result of an entangled push. Not sure though.

Yeah, I don't remember either fighter getting knocked down due to punches. I was just amazed that Kostya wouldn't get up for that final round. I'm not buying the time zone theory, I just think he is at the end of his fantastic career and a younger Lion chased him off.
Delahoya and Kostya would be an excellent fight indeed. Both are very entertaining fighters in the twilight of their career.

Yeah I think you're right. But that punch in the first picture came close to ending it.
I'm not trying to take anything away from Ricky. He's great at what he does and he did exactly what he had to do to win that fight. Hold, clinch, hit behind the head...he took Kostya out of his gameplan. Standing in front of and boxing Kostya wouldn't have worked out well for Ricky at all!
I have no idea why Kostya didn't continue. At the end of the 11th, I had the fight even with two or three rounds that could have gone either way. Once they called the end of the fight, Kostya stood right up, and his legs didn't look wobbly. Doesn't make sense to me.:hot:
