View Full Version : Kung Fu [Version 2.0]
With so much that has been happening with martial arts, how have most of the kung-fu practitioners adapted take kung fu to the next level?
I still do practice wing chun. Incorporating boxing has helped to increase my strength and speed. I also modified my wooden dummy to incorporate kicks, and condition my shine bones. I would love to hear from you all.

I have added yoga and ground work.
A friend of mine does BJJ. Being uncomfortable on the ground, I have started working out with him. I am enjoying it a great deal. I studied judo when I was a kid, so it is not totally foreign to me. But still, its a different world down there on the mat...! :)

You condition your shins on the dummy!
how do you kick it and how much force do you put behind it?
Thats got to hurt a bit!

Welcome to my world, beh-beh! :D:

I did add some padding to the dummy silly. It's not shin bone on wood.
My shins aren't ready for that yet.
Remember the movie with Jean-Claude Van Dam when he repeatedly kicks the 5 inch bamboo shoots until they break?
I'm sure there are guys crazy enough to try this but as my family doctor put it" B.S. baffles brains". beating your shin bones when you're young and can handle it will almost certainly lead to medical problems down the road.
My first sifu recommended rolling a wooden rod ( A rolling pin works great ) to harden the surface of the skin .
You have a very good point. I heard that most kickboxers just have to repeatedly strike the heavy bags to toughen their shins.
