Good heavens. That's just the ticket for educating kids, many of which are barely literate. Give them the means to pump some more 'Birdman and Lil' Wayne' into their addled ears.

You know the saying "Last one out of Michigan, turn out the lights..." - Michigan's economy stinks, largely because it is so symbiotically linked to the American automakers.
In a vote meant to bring some competitiveness to the state, the Single Business Tax was removed. The state is coming up with all kinds of crazy ideas to replace it, except with spending cuts. There is talk of taxing soda and fast food. There is talk of a service tax (for haircuts, lawn mowing...)
Jennifer Granholm, Michigan's Governor, was one of the rising, shining stars of the Democratic party just 6 or so years ago. Now she's got Michigan so messed up - I don't know how it'll all pan out. However, if you want used boats, 3rd cars or some fishing/hunting real estate, prices have been coming down. Time to buy if interested.

How the iPods will improve education I don't know. What makes this additionally bizarre is that a lot of digital items are not allowed at many schools.
It's a supremely dumb idea, but I've seen precious education dollars squandered before. If Michigan is like most jurisdictions I know of, serious educational improvement would cost far more than the price of handing an MP3 player to each kid.
