Got another small honor tonight. I moved up another level in my kickboxing class! I'm now at Level Three! Like when I moved up to Level 2, I got a certificate, and got my name moved up on the boards.

Was actually kind of a surprise for me. I didn't know I was moving up. But then, that made it all the more nicer! :D

Oh well, just wanted to share!

Josh, congrats on the promotion. I am unfamiliar with the ranking structure in kickboxing. How many levels are there? Are the levels used for matching up opponents in fights?

The levels are really just an informal way of gauging one's progress. I don't think they're really used too much as a factor for matching people up in competitions. But then again, not everyone who trains there competes. Or even everyone who spars at the open workouts. Some do, some don't - it's up to them if they're interested in competing.

I think how it usually works is that usually people will start competing at about Level 2 or 3 (I'm at Level 3). Depends on the individual more than anything else, really. And when the instructor feels that they are ready.

There are 10 levels at my school, Beginner Level (where one would start, obviously), and then Levels 0-9. There are only 4 people at level 9, and those people are assistant instructors and/or fighters (I think the fighters there are actually at the Professional level). What's funny is that as it stands right now, there is about four people at Level 5, one person at Level 6, and no one at Levels 7 and 8. Just seems kinda weird, to me

But anyhoo, that's basically how it works. Like I said, it's really just an informal way to gauge where one is at, in general. And they apply it to all the non-belt classes (boxing and kickboxing). They do have belts for the Karate, Jiu-Jitsu, and Weapons classes.

Hope this answers your questions.

"Dungeons and Dragons don't have levels... You dork! "

... For those that don't know, that's from a commercial for Alltel.

Seriously, Congrats! :toast:

And seriously, thanks! Appreciate it!
