View Full Version : Potential Location/Need school owners input please
What's a good manageable size to start with when scouting out potential locations? I don't want to get anything too big and then not be able to meet overhead; on that same note however if a location is too small, I'm trying to cram people in and potential clients are turned off by the inadequate space. HELP!
Note: I'll be offering Tae Kwon Do, MMA, & Cardio-Kickboxing

While everyone would love to have a huge dojo, you can run quite a few through about 1500 square feet. I am talking 200+ students. It all depends on how you schedule the classes.
I highly recommend this e-book http://www.small-dojo-big-profits.com/

Totally agree with Cliff. The link he provided is Mike Massie's book. Mike knows what he's talking about and I can't recommend it highly enough. For even more good info, go to http://www.starting-a-martial-arts-school.com/index.html and sign up for his newsletter.

What kind of locations are you scouting?
Are they stand alone building, strip malls, or renting community center space?

FYI. I gave in to the easy route instead of continuing on my quest for an independant location. I subcontracted with a Gymnastics Academy. With NO work on my part (absolutely none) I'm starting with 19 students.
On the outside, I'm now working with my 4th adult client on private lessons.
I'm also getting calls for Personal Protection workshops from area churches, the local VFW, and a hospital.
It has taken a while but everything is finally coming to fruition! Patience pays off!
