http://www.fdean.com/martial_arts_insurance.html

$450 covers 50 students.
$90 down and $69 a month X 6.
Best deal I've found so far.

$200 special event coverage.

What sucks is that they do not cover Muay Thai or boxing.
If you train full contact try http://www.karateinsurance.com/application42-new.htm

What about "product liability" for any equipment sold at your Locations/ Dojo?

do these companies cover that as well?

If you are meaning personal property/ property damage or commercial. No they do not. I am in the middle of looking for that also. I 'll post what I find out for you as soon as I find out myself.

Are you required as a tenat to have some kind of personal property coverage?

www.Martialartsinsurance.com

does general liab and property coverage on equipment and personal belongings. I haven't got a quote yet. They cant do quotes over the phone, but they fax you a 5-6 page app to fill out.

I'll let you know if i find any more.

I have an even better idea. Why not join the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and have your students join as individual members and let them pay for your insurance? It is about $25 per year and the insurance program is excellent. I plan on taking this route with my students in the very near future. You can find information about the AAU and their insurance program at http://aausports.org/default.asp

Which club level would you recommend? It looks like it will still cost $399/yr for the liability insurance per the note at the bottom of the page.

That note is for "Club Directors and Officers Insurance" which is a little different. The basic club memberships will suffice for most dojo and have different levels depending upon what you want to do with it. For instance, I just need the "practice" type of insurance. So I would join as a Level 1 club, send them a list of my members, and then each member would individually join once my club membership is accepted (that way you have a club code for their membership application).

Anybody know anyone who has actually filed an insurance claim with the AAU group liabilty policy? I am told it is a very difficult policy to collect on.

Anyone know if the liability insurance for clubs also covers you for seminar participants who are not strictly members of your club?

Peace

I visited some of these insurance brokers' sites. I noticed that some have a condition that they won't cover gymnastics.

Now, if an instructor were to teach something like the XMA program or even acrobatic moves such as those in some Northern Chinese styles, would the insurance company consider this a violation? Just curious about the matter.

Will not cover you or your students for classes as they are not considered AAU sanctioned events. The wording on their coverage is very vague. THey rpovide event coverage, not class coverage. I wrote them a couple years back and they were very emphatic about this (at least for the region Colorado is in)

I recently passed hte colorado property and casualty insurance exam so I can help my wife occasionally in her office. I would not count on the AAU coverage to be effective without a letter authorizing the coverage for classes from them. This would make the classes a sanctioned event.

Someone attending a seminar is a student of that seminar. Make the number attending does not exceed the # you're paying insurance for. Otherwise you'll have to up your coverage or get special events coverage of some type.

Just a word on this before you go through with it - I used to do this at my school and I can tell you from experience it was a pain in the butt. It was one more thing to keep track of, who was due when, entering each individual into the AAU website, convincing people they needed to pay the extra $$ at sign-up, arguing with people that insisted they didn't need it because their job gave them health insurance, and on, and on...

I now find it much simpler to just buy a yearly policy from Francis L. Dean as mentioned in this thread.

Hope this helps you out.

i currently have insurance threw that Dean insurance. But it's just liability coverage. What i'd like to be able to is to cover the liablitiy insurance as well as create a program for individual athlete insurance, like what the AAU as well as USA Boxing does.
