Anyone have used Kendo gear they are willing to sell?
Or at least the head gear piece / men.
I'll find out tomorrow at class. Stuff is always popping up.
Kendo is the kind of sport that attracts a lot of 'weekend warrior' types until they find out how hard it is so there's always that used set going up for sale.
Do you JUST need men or the rest of the set as well?

The Men is the most important piece to me, but if I can get a good deal on the whole set great.
I want it for stick fighting, street hockey helmet doesn't protect neck, collar bone and the face cage is to open for straight strikes (but does provide a interesting yet stupid disarm possibility:wink2: )
Stick fighting? You realize that neck protection you are talking about only about to the equivivent of a Karate belt. It aint going to protect **** if you think you are going seriously hit someone with wooden club.

Thats 1000 % better than the protection air is giving me now.
:D:
Do you really want to use a large grate mesh of aluminium to protect against wooden sticks? Sounds like asking to get pieces of splintered wood in your face. Also, I don't think it'll offer much protection from anything else, as I've been wrapped in the ear with shinai a number of times and I thought my head was going to explode.
With FMA as popular as it nowadays you'd think there'd be a better solution, but I'll see what I can do. =)

We spar with padded sticks :)
Try this: http://www.valleymartialarts.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=223
it was designed for FMA.
Here is some more stuff

Some of our guys use FIE 3 weapon fencing masks but they don't have any back of the head protection. No big deal with padded sticks but with rattan it would be a problem.
I was going to suggest what Cliff already posted.
Another idea would be to look at lacrosse gear:

http://www.lacrossemonkey.com/helmets.html (though the helmets don't protect the neck, so a Men might be a better bet).
We used to get a tube of PVC pipe, wrap it in insulation (though not the grip as it would be too wide), and then wrap it in duct tape.
This worked alright (it was a start) but the stick would be heavy (knocked people off their feet sometimes) and a little less agile than a light rattan stick. Still, pretty safe (for hitting each other with sticks, that is).
Pretty cheap, too.

I have heard of people putting PVC pipes through those styrofoam pool toys before.

I used to put light dowels through the insulation and wrap it in electrical tape. We didn't use them for full out sparring though, mostly disarms.
