View Full Version : near to death
Did anybody had any kind of "near to death"-experiences already? Sometimes one can read or see reports about people who had experiences like this ... who has seen her/his life like a film and a "greeting" light and so on ... What do you think about things like that?

How can you know that this experience is near to death?

I've been told by angry people in a pub that I was having a near death experience. I don't remember any light, just a lot of shouting and flying furniture.
In the night before I had the feeling that I would die, because of some kind of heart-attack, some representatives of big religions appeard in my mind, but I guess it was only a coffein overdosis paired with some sleep paralysis.
Everyone is always near death. Hardly anyone is aware of it though.

Word, that....
I spent most of my childhood quite aware of how near death was, and sometimes closer to it than anyone would like...as far as lights, tunnels, and other "otherworldly' stuff-well, let's just say that we're in THIS world, dammit, and those other ones can certainly wait-if they exist....experience taught me by the age of 12 that the best one can do is be aware of it, as Jeff pointed out, and not to think of it too much..
What the hell do you guys in Germany smoke, anyway?

Jeff, if I didn't know better, I would say they got their hands on a certain cactus that only grows in the Desert Southwest, grows mostly underground....

It's all chemical...and can be duplicated in a lab.

You don`t think that they can grow here under proper growth conditions?
When I was about 10 years old I was at a swimming pool that had a 3 meter spring board and a 10 meter platform. The diving well was about 18 feet deep. A bunch of kids started playing "dare you". I jumped off the 10 meter board. My whole life, short as it was, flashed before my eyes. It was like watching a movie of my life at light speed, I could see every detail. Really weird.
I hit the water and suddenly all I could think of was getting up to the surface. No movie, no lights, just panic.
Peace
Dennis

Actually, it's not only possible to grow them, as Nina pointed out, but one can legally purchase seeds of several succulents of the genus williamsi in Germany. That they take ten years or more to mature shouldn't matter too much....
Of course, most people who ingest those don't usually ask such damn silly questions...not with such a predictable audience, answer-wise, anyway...

Near death to Groovy Surfing.
Anybody else see the light at the end of the tunnel?
Also the whole almost talking about illegal activities(depending on where you live) thing should probably wind up here. ;)

Hmm, a few car crashes, including a rollover that totalled the car I was in, blacking out on a dock and waking up under water, a heart attack, having a gun pointed at my head by a crazy teenage thug. Getting kicked by a horse on my kneecap was probably the closest I came to a"white light" experience.

Ok,
Almost drowned as a little kid. I was sitting on the bottom of the Trent river all calm and peaceful until I tried to breathe. Luckily my Godfather saw me go in and came running.
I had a knife held to my throat when I was a little kid.
I've been in more car crashes then I care to remember but never seriously injured.
I had a sky diving accident where my parachute twisted into a bow tie and I pulled the emergency way to late. I woke up badly broken but don't remember a white light, just a lot of cursing.
I've been punched, elbowed, choked and kicked unconscious but that's pretty much standard fare for this crowd....

Another expample of being superstitious is that most adults quit believing in Santa Clause in their childhood at some point, except those who turn him into God always asking him fo things they could get for them selfs if they just worked hard enough.
Nice way to denigrate people's faith there Chris.
Belief in God has nothing whatsoever to do with picking up where Santa Claus left off.

Um, Chris your post is a little garbled, but I take from it that you don't believe in an afterlife or near death experience?
All good but....lets not trash any body's God here (or Santa for that matter ;) the old Elf and I go way back), I don't think this is the place for it.
Any other blinding light stories out there?
I'm not sure Chris was bashing God; I think he was being critical of people giving Santa - a pagan figure - God-like respect. Not sure though; it is kinda garbled.

Looks like I was off base Chris, thanks for making it clear.
Where did I ever say anything about not believing in the after life I just said that we have no control over anything but reality. The after life does not exist in reality we do though. Reality can be measured in space, time, and distance. Point to the afterlife somewhere in reality I dare you to find it in a measuable reality.
Does this have anything to do with the concept of present moment awareness? Yesterday has ceased to exist, tomorrow is just a dream, the only reality is now?
I always butcher these things but that's the gist of it....
Cheers
