View Full Version : Serbia Jujutsu, thoughts?

Other than the obvious mat problem, these seem like some pretty basic moves that are decently executed. Any thoughts.
Another one for consideration.

The beginning and the striking portions look like bad karate to me.

Euro-jitsu. :)
I just sent an email to Dr. Ivica Zdravkovic (he is a physician), a leader in jujutsu in Serbia. I believe he is a member here still. Hopefully he will show up to comment, and answer any questions you have.

Thanks Jeff.
I am interested in the absence of off balancing. Only in a learning point of interest, the executions looked pretty good.
Hello.
Thanks, Jeff, for informing me about interest of some Budoseek members expressed in our YouTube video. It is only one of 15 videos available. I did not want any special comments, so I disabled that option on YouTube. Frankly, I am not so interested in comments. Still, to have a wider picture about me, Serbian Budo Council and our jujutsu, one should look at our website www.budo.hit.as (Archives in particular) and also look at our contacts and credentials. As for nickname Euro-Jutsu, yes, this is a school of jujutsu created in Europe. As for bad karate - yes, it may look like a bad karate - except it is not karate. And karate is not one entity, there are styles and philosophies in karate completely opposed one to other. As for absence of off-balancing (kuzushi), there is kuzushi in throws demonstrated, it is just not over-emphasized. This video, by the way, is a part of a CD created as a reminder for Shinbukan Jujutsu students. It was made in a small accessory training room on very bad mats. But CD serves its purpose and our students are satisfied...
Best regards.

Mr. Zdravkovic,
I never expected to get a response from the creator of the video, thank you for responding! I am only a young jujutsuka in the kyu ranks so my opinion is not expert by far. I was observing that the moves shown in the video were executed well in my opinion (for what it is worth) but only after entry. I understand that this is a training video but kuzushi seemed to be non existent. I am sure that proper atemi will create kuzushi but what about irimi.
The only reason I posted the video is that it looked good but had a few flaws that I wished to hear critiqued from the more knowledgeable jujutsukas on the forum. Strictly for learning.
Dear Mr. Long,
You were not so wrong at all, the kuzushi is not so visible because I got lazy and my assistants are all so light, I am over 230 pounds and my assistants are all at about 165-180 pounds :)
Normally I don't participate on forums any more, but since Jeff sensei informed me and he is a great friend of mine, here I am.
BTW, you said:
"I am only a young jujutsuka in the kyu ranks so my opinion is not expert by far"
There are no experts in martial arts, just doers and those who watch them doing it. Please don't uderestimate yourself. Also, don't expect too smart answers on forums. There are too many people on forums and on Internet who don't do a thing. I know so many people without any grade at all who do a lot more and do it better than dozens of "armchair samurai", people who claim to be "die hard koryu experts".
Best wishes!
Ivica (in US Ju-Jitsu Federation aka "Dr.Z")
Good to hear from you my friend! Thanks for coming by to put your thoughts on this thread, Dr. Z.
I have videos on my website as well. They ain't pretty. I didn't do them to entertain or "wow" people. I did them as a service to my students, who hopefully do practice some on their own. The videos are intended to be a moving reference "book" for techniques they have already learned; in other words, a memory assistant.
As Dr. Z says, the intent of his videos is as a reminder to his students - nothing more. Videos are a graphic training aid. Just like people say you shouldn't test someone by video, I guess that also means we shouldn't test - i.e. judge - instructors and techniques by video.

Old guy beats up young kids, what's not to like.
:D:

Well, obviously my intent never factored in the author of the video replying. I will say again, I thought the execution was good, that is what sparked my interest.
As far as judging anyone from one picture or video, that was not my intent. I would still like to hear any comments.
The videos fulfill their intended purpose, so my opinion is that they are successful in that regard.
Shame on you for being surprised that the gentleman from Serbia who made the video would actually respond! Us Budoseeker-ites are like ninja - we are everywhere, and not only do we know everybody, we are FRIENDS with everybody! ;)

Hahahaha, Jeff, you nailed it
Best regards to all.
I have to say, that I am very impressed with the long arm of the Budoseek!
Dr. Z
Thanks for replying.
I hope you will continue to visit this forum every so often.

You know, I did. And I did not find any reference to a teacher of a Japanese tradition of jujutsu or kenjutsu who has judged you qualified enough to teach their art of the same. If true, that would mean you don't have any credentials.
It looks to me like you never bothered to learn much before you started to teach others. If this is wrong, maybe you can give me the names of your teachers who licensed you in teaching their art. Since I live in Japan and both speak and read the language fluently, I can contact the people you mention if you give me contact information to confirm that there are people in Japan that think you know enough to teach kenjutsu and jujutsu. Of course, I promise to keep the contact information to myself unless it turns out they do not back up what you say.

Man, what is up with the witch hunt! That was never the intention of this thread. I love how you call people conspiracy theorist in other threads for pointing out similarities but you obviously don't see the irony in yourself. I read your long blog about the hatred you have for all martial arts that cannot trace a direct lineage back to Japan. ( http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...ogID=448539573). So since you like to call people out, I am asking for at least three references of people I can contact who can tell me that you are not the tool that you seem to be. I of course will keep the info. to myself unless they do indeed state that you are a tool. ;)

Gentlemen, let's BOTH not go there.
From everything I know of Dr. Ivica, he has never claimed to have ties back to Japan or teach a traditional/classical martial art.
