View Full Version : Question? Villabrille Largusa Kali
http://www.villabrillelargusakali.com/index.html
I found some of them training in a garage about 6 houses down from my new place. It's very convenient but the training looks kinda soft.
I could certainly be mistaken, though.
Anyone know what they're like?
Looks legit at least, from what I can tell. As for "soft" training. Did you observe a class to come to that conclusion or is that something from the website? There are times when someone could walk into our Modern Arnis class and it would probably appear soft. That would be a night when we do not walk out of there with bruises, scrapes, mat burns, and our bells ringing from getting hit in the head.
Something to think about...
You could try posting on FMAtalk as well. That is a pretty active board with more FMA people then you are going to find on here.
Cheers!

My first red flag is the bogus history. Kali is not a term you'll hear in the Phillipines and that whole secret tradition crap is just wrong. Kali is the "mother art of Arnis and Eskrima"?!? News to a lot of FMA people...
I got the usual stuff about "descended from so-and-so, our grand-super-master, who used this art in the death matches" and then spent a 2 hour practice doing only kata. Some was interesting, some was not.
I HATE going through motions only to have the "secrets revealed" later. That doesn't work for me at all (including when trying to figure out how this friggin' microprocessor works but that's another story).
They were nice people, though. Easy to like, especially the head guy.
Seems too watered down and "traditional" (which to me usually means nonsensical and filled with non-straightforward learning methods but not necessarily).

As long as you get one good move, technique, idea, stretch or cookie recipe, it isn't a complete waste :D
