About $2 apiece. I bought 100 to start, have had about 40 put out so far and most of those disappear after about a week.

I signed eight people off of them in a month. Paid for them and made money in the first month. By far the best advertising I have done.

Interesting.

Do you purchase these signs locally, or order them online?

Are they the ones made out of that corrugated plastic-like stuff with the metal stand?

Where do you put them? in students' yards, at intersections?

Why do they disappear after a week?

Yard signs have a high vandalism rate. Just part of the cost of business.

One of my students had them made locally.

Yes they are the corrugated plastic with metal stands.

Both yards and intersections. The highway department goes around and picks up the ones in the intersections. Sometimes you get a week or two of exposure before you lose them. Plus any good wind storm will blow them away.

Considering that newspapers cost about $75 a column inch for a one time run and radio is around $20 for 30 seconds each time it runs, I think the signs have worked out the best.

Has anyone tried ads that run at the movie theater before certain movies?

For example, having an ad before "The Karate Kid". There have been a few martial arts movies in the last year, Never Back Down, Redbelt, Fighting, Kung Fu Panda, Forbidden Kingdom...

I wonder if it is possible to have a movie theater ad for only certain movies, and certain times/dates.

Thanks Cliff. Compared to commercial advertising in the print media, this does sound like great bang-for-buck.

Our club is right next to a popular restaurant. Two weeks ago I hung a folder on the outside of our door full of tri-fold pamplets.

About 30 have been plucked out during hours when we are closed. We've gotten three visitors and one sign-up from people who knew nothing of us except that pamphlet.

Great guerilla marketing technique. I always wondered if the highway patrol or someone in that capacity would call or fine you for posting the signs. If they don't and just take the signs away, it is totally worth it.

Technically in Texas it's illegal to put them in the Department of Transportation right of way. The problem is, those are not marked and can vary from place to place. Plus unless someone catches you actually putting it out, they can't prove who did it. You can just say you put it in a yard and some vandal moved it. So prosecution of it would be a nightmare. That is why the Texas DOT just sends someone around in a truck once a month and picks everything up. They usually have them in a big pile and you can go by their location and get them back. I just haven't had the chance to get by there lately. I am sure most of them are there.

I used to use them for my College Pro franchise.
Like Cliff said, you get maybe a week out of each, but they generate calls and are cheap.
they "Look real" as opposed to home-made cardboard signs, so that helps.

Yes, these are awesome... I just opened a new location here in Florida and put these out for the past month. We had over 30 sign ups just from those. I get them from signsonthecheap dot com... $160 for 50 double sided 1 color with stakes

Good stuff!
