Had another fun round of stick sparring last night. Somehow, I actually pulled off two disarms that just kind of fell into my hands without working too hard to get them. I tried for them a few other times but couldn't make it happen. For the most part, I gave better than I received though I certainly got caught with my fair share of shots. Adding real sticks to the equation teaches you several good things. 1) respect the stick and don't stick that other hand out to check the opponents moves. 2) those things move fast! LOL
A couple of weeks before yesterday we did some knife sparring which was an absolute blast. It certainly taught me right away that I had one particular tendency that was opening me up for some things that I don't want to be on the receiving end of. We need to find a good way to interject some realism into the mix and account for likely injuries as a result of the strikes received. I think that will really take it to the next level from a practicality standpoint.
All in all, great training and a fun time...
Galang, ;)
