I've recently begun training in earnest in hapkido after a long hiatus from Korean martial arts (my foundation was Hwarang do). Recently, I've begun finding references online to style I've never heard of: Haedong Gumdo.

Apparently, most of the instructors in the U. S. started in tae kwon do--I was wondering if anyone from the hapkido side had any experience with it? It looks like it would be a wonderful complement to hapkido training.

I trained Kumdo along side HapKiDo and found many many similairities in terms of grip and hand posture between Hapkido and Kumdo.

I'm not very familiar with Haidong Kumdo, other than a few demo's I have the pleasure of watching. Seemed a little too flashy and showy for me, there's also lots of controversy and debate over Haidong Kumdo's history and the supposed "Samurang" that may or may not have existed.

Hopefully Master Bae will post here and explain better the benefits of cross-training Kumdo and HapKiDo.
