Last night at a Japanese restaurant, I had a Sapporo-saki bomb.
That was interesting.

Hehe, I was at a Japanese restaurant myself last night. Great place, their grilled lobster is exquisite. I just stuck with regular old sake though..they had a two for one special! :D
So how does a 'bomb' work, do you put sake in the cup and pour the beer around it in the glass? Sorry for my ignorance, my drinking habits are rather, er, pedestrian. Usually along the lines of a)pour beverage into cup. b)drink it.

That's how it works, and usually you're expected to shotgun the drink. Much like a jagerbomb.
Dennis, only one?:t2:

Afraid I don't know much about Jaegerbombs either...too old I guess. Jaegermeister is disgusting anyway. So does the sake and beer mix, and how does one prevent the sake cup from slapping you in the teeth? Why not just mix the two in a glass and shotgun it like that?
I have a feeling I've got a really incorrect idea of the whole process. :D
Not sure if it's 'real Japanese culture' either, but many is the salariman that liked sake and Seagrams in Japan.

Yes, just one. :D
They way they did it was to pour the beer into the glass and then we dropped the saki glasses in, kind of like a boiler-maker. It was good. In my old age I have become more of a one or two beer maximum drinker so, the one "Saki-bomb" was plenty.

I might have enough adventurousness to try one in my old age, but I must say the idea of a salmon bomb seems a little frightening. :D

Is the rice wine I speak of spelled sake, with an "e"?
That's OK, last night I poured out the redneck on these folks. Our waiter (obviously of Asian descent) was named Mark. I told him that wasn't very Japanese sounding. He says, "Good thing I'm Korean." I busted a gut laughing.
We jacked with each other all night.

Just having a bit of fun, sake (or in some parts sha-ke) is also 'salmon', the pronunciation is just slightly different.
Great comeback by Mark ...sounds like a real good time.
We drop a shot of saki into a cup of beer.
Then shotgun it, which is something of a waste since it tastes good (at least to me).
Just don't call it a naga-saki bomb.

Particularly as it's pronounced sa-kay. :D:
'Saki-bomb' would perhaps indicate a state of being bombed which has yet to come....actually that's kind of apt.. :wink2:
I had my first saki bomb last year. It was quite good. In this restaurant, they placed two chopsticks on top of the beer glass, and placed the saki on top of those. Bang the table, glass falls in and drink.

In my experience, most of the Japanese restaurants in the US are owned and operated by Koreans. One way you can tell if it's run by Japanese is if there are actual Japanese customers in there.
I've drank a sake bomb before. The only place I've seen it in Japan is in bars which have lots of non-Japanese customers.

Something tells me that dropping a shot into a glass of beer and chugging it down is probably a western thing anyway. :D
