View Full Version : Do you use school logos or custom
I would like to talk about school logo's.
What do you guys feel is best, to make your own school logos or to use your association logos? For example we are associated with two or three organizations here and internationally, and we don't want to infringe on the other,we don't want to promote one over the other.
however we do have association banners of all of our associations in the dojo.
And who do you use for your logo designer? We are talking to logoworks, however they are very expensive, but the work is first class.....

I am an independent school and I use my own logo. I had a student help with the artwork and I found a company that made up patches, etc for cheap. From a business standpoint I am sure I could make a far better logo, but our logo is linked to our philosophy so i have kept it. Mainly I think its important that you feel your logo represents you and your school well.

I've never trained anywhere that had one, at least none that we actually sewed onto our dogi or anything.
If you are a competitive school, more often then not school logos are banned from competition. Check with the orgs that you are affiliated with.
If you are not competitive, I would go with a school logo.

For my TKD people I use the logo belonging to the sports club we're part of:
The red logo to the left (http://www.erdal-il.no/hXGYzSMdfW1U.16.idium) (although it's white on blue now, for some reason) The WTF logo is in theory not supposed to be put on uniforms, at least they way I've understood the rules of use they've published.
The Hapkido uniforms we use have my instructor's school logo (here (http://www.master-shahram.com/About_Master_Lashgari.html) below the main photo) embroidered directly onto them. Once I run out I'll have to decide what to do, but I think I'll go with the sports club's logo.
The WHGF logo is sewn onto dan graders' uniforms along with some other stuff, and there's only one of those around here so far ;)

I'm part of a world - wide organization. We have the mon (the Mabuni family crest) on our gis over our hearts. That's it for the uniform. In advertising and in some specific designs on t - shirts and the like, I use some other designs as well.

Never heard of that. All the competitions I've been to I have seen tons of school logos on the back of gi tops and even on kung fu uniforms. I had a school logo on the back of my kung fu top. What type competition are you talking about? Maybe I just don't compete at the same type of tournaments.
As for my six students i have them wear the normal kung fu pants and a school t-shirt that is red with a black dragon on the back of it. This is the dragon on the back of our t-shirts.......

We decided to go more PG.

Never heard of that.
That's because more than likely she's referring to AAU sanctioned tournaments. To avoid the mess of multiple logos and looking like a NASCAR driver the AAU only allows one patch on the uniform for competition.

So if you have a kung fu top or gi top that is embroidered with your school logo on the back then you can't wear that at an AAU tournament?

AAU huh......that would be why I never heard of such a rule......LOL. I have never competed at an AAU tournament. I guess I would have been in a delima/shock if I had gone to an AAU tournament becuase they would not have let me compete.
When I did Karate tournaments there were no patches. Eveyone wore plain white gi. No Kung Fu tops were were allowed. It was a Karate Tournament...... and only certain Karate kata were allowed.
Back then it was called WUKO. Today I believe the equivilent governoring body is the WKF.
Tony would not have been able to have done his Shorin kata. Offical kata were taken from Shotokan, Goju Ryu, Shito Ryu and Wado Ryu. .... and only certain versions.
This was called an even playing field.
Most open tournaments around here don't care. I have seen a lot of uniforms with U.S. flag patch, Korean flag patch, association patch and school patch.
