I have to qualify with two AR15s (mine and the Department's). It sure is nice of them to give me a brand new Colt 6920 AR15 M4. I am putting a new EOTech on the company gun. Should be fun. I will post an after action report.
Just for grins I am going to shoot our department qualification with my AK and see if I can pass it.

We had friggin cloud cover three days in a row, and we get to the range right before 2pm and the sun was out and it got hot real quick.
Ok, first I sighted in my AR-15 M4 (DPMS), which now sports a carry handle. It's being retired to the homeland defense armory. The only thing I have on it is a flashlight. Got it up to speed pretty quick and put it away.
Next I zeroed the new work AR which is a Colt 6920 M4. It has a top mono rail that runs from the upper receiver to the front sight. Plus it has a quad rail forearm. The mono rail allows you to mount optics farther forward. From my understanding, this was originally done for magnifiers and night vision that needed to be mounted behind the optic. What was discovered though, was that the forward mounted optic is much quicker on target and offers a wider field of view.
I acquired a new EOTech and mounted it on the forearm section of the rail. I zeroed the back up iron sights and the EOTech. Then it was qualification time.
Our new rifle qual 30 rounds.
5 from the 100 prone - sprint to 50
5 from the 50 kneeling - reload - sprint to 25
5 prone, 5 kneeling, 5 squatting from the 25 - sprint to 15
5 walking forward between 15 and 5.
You have to complete the course in 3 minutes. Only the A, B, and C zone scores and you have to hit at least 27 out of 30 to qualify. D zone counts as a miss and any round not on paper is an automatic failure. We are required to qualify with irons and optics so I had to shoot it twice. Passed both first time. I shot tighter with the irons and faster with the EOTech. I am in love with the forward mounted EOTech. As my coworker said, It makes shooting "stupid easy."
After that we just had some fun. We head shot some hostage taker targets, did a lot of moving drills, and finished up burning some rounds through my AK47. I love my AK! In case of Zombie Apocalypse I am ready!
Got home, cleaned the ARs, set up a flashlight, forward grip, and buttstock mag carrier on the Colt, and put together a "grab bag" for my police car. Its a small bag I picked up at a gun show that has a shoulder strap and pockets for six rifle magazines. So it now carries six loaded mags, two bottle of water, an MRE, and three light sticks. I need to get some more 1911 magazines and throw a couple of those in there. Also some trauma dressings and tactical tourniquet will end up in there. It's something I can grab if I am ever in a LA bank robbery type shootout.
Didn't have time to clean the AK, I had to go teach a BJJ class. I'll get to it tomorrow.
