I just picked up this MAS 36 chambered for original 7.5x54 French today and thought I'd share some photos and also ask two questions. First thing the rifle doesn't have a manufacture date on it past the fact its a MAS Mle 1936, so does anyone have an idea as to how I could find out a manufacture date? I checked and MAS doesn't appear to be around anymore but I found a site that directed me to a company called Nexter. Second as pictured this rifle came with a multi-sided spike bayonet and I know these were banned by the Geneva convention but haven't been able to find out what date they were banned. My search came up with they were banned but no date reference. Anyone know because both my MAS 36 and Nagant 91/30 have them.

If you post or PM me the serial number and letter prefix I should be able to find out around when it was manufactured. Also let me know whether the letters are in script or block lettering.
I often hear of spike bayonets (and even rusty bayonets) being 'banned by the Geneva Convention' but I have yet to ever see this. The only reference to bayonets I have come across is a protocol against serrated ones. Even this is rather odd as the M9 is serrated. The French continued to make and supply spike bayonets for a long time after the Geneva Conventions were signed.
Neat rifle, by the way.

Thanks David. I sent you a PM with the serial number and what little info I've found. It is a very neat rifle and I was glad to find one in the original caliber even if I do have to mail order ammo. I love the unique shape of the bolt on this rifle it kind of makes it stand out.
