I just wanted to let you guys know about the experience i had on Sat. with Troy Price, Tashi. I got a chance to go to his Shuri-te bu-jutsu workshop. It was 5 1/2 hours of training. It was held at the Sidekick Karate Dojo hosted by Robert Taylor Sensei. It has been hard for me to get in some good training lately being in the 82nd Airborne especially in the infantry. The hours get crazy then you are always deployed or getting ready to go back. So i thoroughly enjoyed getting some phenomenal training in even though i was not a part of their organization. I felt as though I had been with them for years. Tashi's depth of knowledge was inspiring. Just thought I would share I will be going back as much as I can.

Could someone please tell me what a "Tashi" is?

From what I have read it just means an expert in the martial arts. But who knows I didn't make it up or even speak Japanese. I am from the mountains in NC so heck my English even sounds bad.

Funny, I've been doing this stuff for nearly 40 years and I have never heard of the title. For that matter, if I search online for the term, the only thing that comes up relating to a martial arts title is Mr. Price. I'd be interested if any of our Nihongo literate folks, particularly those who have or are currently working in Japan, have some insight as to the nature of this title.

As a follow-up to the above. After consulting with individuals who are Nihongo literate, and have lived, worked and trained in Japan (some currently), the conclusion is that the title of "Tashi" is non-existent in the Japanese martial arts.

At least he didn't claim to be a Bodhisattva like me! :D

Actually, it should be "dashi" not "tashi". Dashi is a broth or stock made with kombu and fish. Which explains why the history of the instructors has an odor to it. Watched some video of what they do, it's about average stuff to my eyes, but I'm glad Matthew enjoyed it. I seem to recall Mr. Price discussed on e-budo several server crashes ago, and it got about the same reaction there as here.
