Hi,

I was looking at Guru Plinck's video on Pukulan Silat. I have some back ground in Wing Chun - some of Silat looks like Wing Chun. So my question is - are any similarities between the two systems or am I barking up the wrong tree.

Thanks,

Kamal.

There will always be similarities between various martial arts. Both, the Arts of Wing Chun and Sera(k), work diligently on the protection of the centerline. You will also find that in the expression of Sera that Maha Guru Plinck teaches that you could find an argument for a type of sticky hand/ adhesive philosophy. I would encourage you to look into both Arts more and you will find that some aspects of each Art will complement each other.

Peace and Blessings!

Salaam Alaikum, as a teacher of a west sumatran style of silat I can say that a punch is a punch no matter what art you look into, but the essence of style has myriad sources... inspiration is another mystery entirely... I have taught my share of Wing Chun Students... and there is always a very real adjustment period where they struggle to unload in order to change and adjust to the training of silat... within various sytems I teach... there is vast difference... but each silat style has certain common elements... geometry of movement, ground sourcing for power, musical dance movement, impeccable speed, use of the blade etc.. I have not seen these elements in Wing Chun... so far in my own experience... with the exception of speed.... but truly in that authentic silat should be on another level...
