View Full Version : 2011 May 4th Shimogamo Jinja: Kito Ryu Jujutsu
First things first: This was taken by a senior of mine (Yuji Suzuki). I was not at Shimogamo Jinja this year because, well, I need to spend time with my family. So He took this for me with his pocket camera. Not hi-def like my monster gives, but still worth a look:

This is one of the clips on how NOT to film a demo. It helped to highlight the difficulties of capturing moments that won't be repeated. It also reminds us of how lucky we are to have Russ recording with his "monster"... from the right angle, usually without pillars and always with a steady picture.
This kind of demo does look strange to people who aren't used to Embu. The formal stages of the attack look like a dainty dance, followed by a beautiful roll that doesn't always look necessary. Judging from the movement of the two, I would hazard a guess that they are pretty mean judo players. I bet those techniques hurt like hell when they're done in "non-demo" mode.
I always love it when uke has trouble putting on the breaks.
