One of the important things to remember about fasting is that it is much harder to do while your metabolism is based around burning sugar. If you have switched over to fat-burning, it happens much easier, almost feeling natural to skip breakfast and thus allow your body 18 or so hours between caloric input to rest and recover.

Blood lipids normalize. Blood pressure recovers. Arterial plaque shrinks. Visceral fat is scavenged for energy, lowering systemic inflammation.

It's all good.

This is very interesting. Fasting is a part of a lot of old cultural Japanese martial practices (at least, it was..hell if anyone does it anymore) and this really adds a dimension to it.

Fasting is also part of many spiritual practices where the aim is to master the bodily needs to foster spiritual growth. It's not a far stretch to see that if fasting helps to reestablish hormonal balance where this could result in an improved physical/spiritual/emotional sense of well being.
