View Full Version : If you could go back
If you could go back or start again today what would choose as your speciality? Counter-Intelligence? Sniper?

Spec. Ops. in either the Corp. or Navy. Of course AF Combat Control always appealed to me as well, but the moment I had a child all of those thoughts and ideas went away. When your single you give little thought to anything but the job. When a family is involved they become your thoughts. You realise that not comming home will affect more than just you. now you have other responsabilities to worry about.

If I could go back, having at least SOME idea of what things would be like now, I'd be looking for a decent trade....machinst, eletronics/electrical tech, vehicle mechanic, something along those lines.
Probably go with the Corp, since they have always emphasized what I agree is the most important thing;first and foremost, EVERYONE is a rifleman. Anything else is a secondary skill.

I wouldn't change anything because I'm happy where I am now and if I changed my past my present could be worse (or better!).
But, enough of the babbling....
I agree with Ron regarding the fact that the rifle is a combatants primary weapon (in the main). I always liked the idea of pushing for sniper school. Two of my friends worked hard and became Bataliion snipers.
Whether or not I would/could have finished the training is another matter. Damn hard work as I recall; and, more impotantly, whether I could have DONE the job in the field is a completely different matter altogether.................
I ended up as an anti-tanker and, in retrospect, it was enjoyable.

Like Andy said, probably wouldn't change a thing.

well sitting behind a desk doing counter intell just isnt my thing so i would have to go with sniper.
i love being out doors and things that go bang just do it for me. i think the hunt in the army was always more thrilling than the fire fight.
if your talking intell like sf then i think its a toss up just because the greens always got the really cool toys when i was in.

I'm very, very happy withwhere I am and what I've done.
That said, I would have joined the military early, right out of school and (if I had my choice) gone either 18D in the Army or Navy corpman and get assigned to a Marine Force Recon unit.
I enjoyed being an infantry medic and I was pretty decent, but in retrospect I didn't know enough about the service to challenge myself.

If I had changed the one major regret I have... my life would be 180degs fro where it is now. For good or bad or I dont know. I would have taken the 71L MOS reclass rather than the medical discharge (which was bogus but I didnt want to BE a 71L), did my year as a paper pusher, and either went back to being a 12B or went to Infantry school... then Ranger or SFAS after that.
Now Im trying to get back in with a RE code of 3... HA! Good luck dummy! :(
